It seems like there's a bountiful number of "personalities" and sub communities within this space. I've seen several people say we need an e/acc sub forum, but I think it could be slightly broader to encompass tech people and sub communities.

People like Aella, Elon Musk, that one rationalist tranny cult from a week ago who shot people, Elizer/Less Wrong. There's hundreds of them out there.

I think even stuff like the code of conduct shit, hector martin and the like could find a home there.

To be clear: not a subforum about the tech itself but rather the wacky ass people people surrounding the tech.

Also note that this isn't even a new topic in the Farms, Rationalism and its cult-like followers are well known and documented. They are a very small subset of people who follow Nietzsche's beliefs, though. The movement is highly influential in Silicon Valley and has largely dominated intellectual discussion for at least 20 years now.
See:

Bryan Johnson the guy trying to extend his life and extend his nighttime erections is another contender:
At some point there's going to need to be an e/acc subforum, because all of those people are crazy.

  • Agree

There is absolutely no reason why Internet and Technology, which is already slow and underused, cannot accommodate this.
That's mostly about the actual tech from what I can see - Bryan Johnson doesn't fit in there.

Again it's not about "I found a cool AI tool" but more about "holy shit look at this insane rationalist polycule trying to overthrow OpenAI"

It's a very broad "movement" that I guess includes "technology personalities" - a few people have suggested either a megathread just for e/acc alone or a subforum (which could include an e/acc thread)

Problem is nobody uses the fucking AI threads. Everything gets clumped on the ChatGPT thread... I'd have thought that now that AI is srs business people would push for something but nope. I personally think it's history in the making so there's got to be a good thread so people know who fucked them over out of a job to Clippy 9000. This is about the insane asylum in SV not the tech.

This is what I'm trying to get at:
I ain't reading this shit but from browsing xitter, "e/acc" in name or bio is worse than pronouns. The only difference is the e/acc females, who are all thots, seem to be actual females.

"The insane asylum of SV" is a very apt way to put it. These people are all over Twitter + KF seems to have some people who either follow some of these people or have a high interest in the tech sector.

Given the amount of money involved in the space and how niche/novel it is and how many bizarre people there are it could be a fascinating hotspot of activity - I can't think of anywhere else on the internet that has something like it.

I openly encourage people to use the Tech Board for tech-adjacent stuff. Including ecelebs or other noteworthy people who might not be "lolcows", but are discussion worthy. The board needs more discussion, not less. If it starts to become too much then we break it off, not before. The tech board is about tech culture as much as it is about distro/language circlejerks.

e/acc is probably Community Watch worthy.

I'll try to draft an OP and see if people like it, quite a few tangentially related groups to talk about
Yeah a community watch thread could be a good start.

For everyone else I guess we could just see how things go but it seems likely there's going to be more and more threads about this area. So if not now then maybe the idea can be revisited later on.

In my mind it would just be a subforum were all this crazy ass silicon valley/tech cult stuff goes along with Bryan Johnson and e/acc and bronze age pervert and all the adjacent shit - none of this stuff is slowing down and is consistently accelerating because it's an extremely active and growing tech bubble and it seems like it will generate interest on its own some day.

May I ask what BAP has to do with AI, though? Wasn't he some random history YouTuber?

When i hear the word ¨rationalist¨ this is the first thing that i think of
images (1).jpg800px-USMC-101123-M-4065W-009.jpg
Someone that works with or enjoys consuming rations

EA was "the thing" a few years back. Since the FTX exchange imploded and people looked into it closer it looks more like a cult/warning sign due to how much fucking money they ended up spending on AI safety programs instead of nets for malaria in mogadishu or whatever shit. And it wasn't a small amount of money either, we're talking tons of fucking money.
e/acc is born off of effective altruism - so effective altruism would be a part of it.

gonna shill my on topic thread:
that encompasses pro-ai/e acc spergs and communities
Yeah this would be a part of it too.

Like if you've watched the Silicon Valley TV show then basically anything that would go on there (it's a little dated though since they didn't really deal with AI doomers and boomers and coomers and all of that shit)

There's definitely a raft of Bay Area Rationalists threads (off the top of my head, Yudkowski, Aella, the AI doomer thread, I think there's a PG thread on the Zizians) but none of them are all that active. The problem with these guys is they're pretty insular and a lot of the milk production probably occurs offline, in-person while they're doing their little cult activities or drugging and "jailbreaking" each other. For example, we only get (long, spergy) writeups about the crazy goings-on at MIRI after someone defects; there's not a member live tweeting about it so it doesn't lend itself to active threads.

Rather than a new subforum or new thread I think it'd be better to revamp the Yudkowsky/LessWrong thread into a "Bay Area Rat/EA" thread and add more to the OPs of the other threads to link them together.
