Man, that was a prestream for the ages. We got a little bit of everything - retcon galore, rollback cope (even a Canon shoutout), begging, picking fights with chat, detractor paranoia, and that massive meltdown about what retarded means. Usually Phil's broken English doesn't get to me, but this one ticked a nerve.
Dent Cool Guy that Retard rant (meltdown?) as well as the clip when he said Retard was a slur because Cog said it on RTU's stream.
It's a perpetual state of cognitive dissonance that has been aged for almost a decade, quite literally a form of insanity.
First off, some definitions.
According to Oxford, a slur is:
Oxford's third definition of disparagement (the relevant one here) describes "disparagement" as:
With that in mind, recall that a slur is anything suggesting it meets the criteria of disparagement. Phil tries to claim that "retarded" means something along the lines of slow in development/operation. While, yes, he is correct in that sense, that's exactly why is is wrong. As the average, commonly accepted definition of a person includes someone that is not developmentally slowed, Phil's explication of attributing people/person/you with being retarded is intrinsically denigrating (in this case, their mental development).
This qualifies as belittling and under-valuing, which therefore constitutes as an act of verbal disparagement, and thus a slur. With how much power people tend to give the word "slur", ATEOTD it is just another word for "gross insult" and doesn't really mean much if you think about it. I don't and neither should you.
But that's not all. Thanks to WordNet we can track semantical relationships between words and how they are used in language. For example, directly related words to disparagement include "depreciation" and "derogation". Words within the same domain are directly related in practice, e.g. "pedophile" and "Derich". In the case of "disparagement", some interesting words in the same domain include:
According to Oxford, a slur is:
Seems reasonable enough, but to get it even through Phil's retarded skull, I have to explain what I mean by "disparagement".A deliberate slight; an expression or suggestion of disparagement or reproof.
Oxford's third definition of disparagement (the relevant one here) describes "disparagement" as:
Or, in simpler terms:The action of speaking of in a slighting or depreciatory way; depreciation, detraction, under-valuing.
All of the related words (depreciatory, blittle, under-valuing) effectively mean to lessen the intrinsic value of something.a communication that belittles somebody or something

So not only is his use of "retard" technically a slur, but him calling people "sissies" and "detractors" randomly are as well.sissy, detraction, condescension
This is the "gourmet" frozen ramen Phil's talking about. I get them every so often for a cheap meal so I knew what he was talking when he said it was "premium". I hate to agree with Phil but it is some good shit, especially for the price.Phail pointed out it's gourmet frozen ramen, commoner. They only have the best.
Someone needs to send KyloAshton (I call him triple P) has suddenly made me very interested in this upcoming interview.View attachment 6967343
In my view, Phil is unconsciously nihilistic. He lacks a true direction, just "staying in his lane". Yes, I also agree he thinks that he is a great gamer, but he doesn't truly believe he is a great gamer. The way he treats everything around him suggests that under everything is just nothing, while his ego is strong enough to protect him from mental collapse by continuously rejecting his nihilism. It would also explain his obsession with the trolls and always being correct: it's a self-preservation attempt because without what he consciously insists is his reality, there is literally nothing.I disagree.
