No, no, I think my resentment is warranted. Because it's less about the game and more about the continued practice of sacrificing integrity and consistency for a sliver of what could be something more interesting and better handled.

It's a repeating problem when it comes to this kind of thing. Bending established canon and making implausible excuses to open up sexuality in any piece of media is lazy and shallow as a form of "representation." It's a pity prize at best, manipulative at worst.

There's also the continued meme and push that men, any man, including gay men, can't JUST be very close friends with one another anymore. It feels like a type of erasure that I am not personally comfortable with.

I bought the game because I managed to avoid the drama, I'm enjoying it but it is so noticably pozzed compared to the first game. The first game felt like going in a time machine, it was a difficult and interesting historical RPG based on real places and people. I knew KCD2 was fucked when I came across Istvan and Eric being a fag couple. That and the dumbed down combat and skills just makes it feel like Skyrim without the dragons.

I was talking with a friend who enjoys reading about history and has played through much of the game already. He sent me his thoughts about the Jewish portion of the game because he is familiar with the subject. This is a bit long, but here it is:

"In relation to real history, the game doesn't even make the Jews look better. The actual history of Czech and Prague vilifies Christians far more than KCD2 does. The majority of changes are pure leftism which doesn't benefit any religion. In the end Vavra didn't help Jews. He harmed everyone.

This game's content seems like it comes down to a lefty retard being unleashed by having a sizable investment backing and the current political climate.

Prague was subject to multiple instances of "clearing" of Jews and non-Christians from the area over centuries. This occurred through the 1200s and into the 1700s. This was usually due to power consolidation or retaliatory acts against cultural groups that Christians would consider barbarians (meaning any non-Christian targeted during these conditions).

The Jews were not "grandfathered" into Czech society until they started to become formally recognized by the Church in the mid 1700s. Generally-speaking, being a Jew wasn't consider 'bad' except under circumstances where Christian purity was required by policy such as running local governments. The true vilification of Jews began during the Russian anti-religion campaigns of the 1920 and 1930s where the USSR were systematically trying to destroy the presence of all religion.

The Christian Church slowly adopted Jews over time and that was what would lead to the creation of modern Israel. The reason the Church adopted the Jews was because Jews acquiring their own state of their own was fulfilling Biblical prophecy. This also explains why the US and Israel are such close allies and why even Christians are selling out to the Jews and Jewish influence. This has lent a temporary reprieve to the inevitable death of the Jewish religion. Jews are not actively converting to catholic or protestant because, if they did they would have no influence anymore.

Sorry about the tangent. The problem with the Jews in KCD2 is NOT that they are not supposed to be there. The real problem is that Vavra's changes to history don't make sense if he is trying to benefit Judaism. Everything Vavra does seems like generic liberal leftism.

If the average gamer even plays through this part of the game, they are not likely to see Judaism in a better light. What will probably happen is they will hate both the Jews and Christians because many people in the first world are secular anyway.

So, the real question is, why would Vavra change history in KCD2 to make Jews be the ones that slaughter people? Maybe it is some kind of revenge fantasy because he said on twitter that he doesn't care for Christians because they destroyed his culture. But even if he is Jewish, his changes won't improve the Jews' reputation which is incredibly low right now. Real history would have put Jews in the position of sympathy and made Christians look bad but KCD2 doesn't do that. Instead, the game seems to take a broader view that religion in general is the real enemy."
