If your BMI is <35 you probably don’t need to worry about undergoing surgery, but above that you should probably be concerned,

General anaesthesia can be done through an iv alone. Usually its a combination of iv and gas, but it can also be done through gas alone. It depends on the patient and surgery. Its the drugs that makes the difference. Usually its propofol that surgeons use.

What Kitty Kitty Cat said! A lot of Anaesthetists are moving away from gas anaesthetic to TIVA (total IV anaesthesia) because the gases are actually kind of terrible for the environment (even with scavenger systems in the ventilation), and there is a little bit of a risk to everyone involved that they can breathe in a little bit. TIVA is basically what every sedated patient in an ICU is on anyway, so it's not at all new.

The reason gases are used rather than always using TIVA is that it is fast on and fast off (turn off the gas and once the patient has breathed it off after a few breaths they will start to wake up), but if you use TIVA you just need to use something short acting like propofol which basically also stops working once you turn it off as it has a very short half-life.


Also regarding the room they were operating in, I mean it looks very small compared to a normal operating theatre (because it's a clinic room) but as long as the sterile field is isn't contaminated it's as clean as any other place to operate. It's still very odd though.

i imagine it's not a health risk but rather an intoxication one, if you're going to be performing surgery you wanna be as lucid as possible
you likely wouldn't notice the small amount you can accidentally breathe in but if it makes you even a little bit sleepy, that's dangerous, especially for a long operation

they also go through a few operations a day, so it definitely adds up
same reason your doctor bolts out of the room at the speed of sound after he sets the xray machine, the one flash you got during that examination, he would potentially experience a dozen times a day

I really appreciate it whenever Youtubers are willing cite the Farms as their source, since most are too chickenshit to do so, even when it's obvious that they read here. She also laughed in response to something I said which was a very inappropriate reaction to the situation. Farms first. And the reaction she gave was in response to me describing a traumatic medical procedure that has been researched and proven to be such. You’re held down and forced to pee on a table in front of doctors. There is no dignity in a vcug. My vcug showed reflux so bad I had to have surgery. It’s was grades iii and iv, grade v is the highest. My ureters were twisting and such. I was sick constantly with utis. Vcugs were done several times in my case. It isn’t one and done.

I went on the podcast because of a very real, actual medical mystery on my family dating back to the late 1800s. It’s not like the other episodes. And it has very real medical consequences. I only wanted to speak up because my case is very rare with maybe 200 or so known cases worldwide and no doctor ever figured it out and I was treated horribly by the geneticist. I figured out my own mystery I was finally able to get molecular genetic testing which lead to a clinical diagnosis finally. I do have proof of the diagnosis I can share with a mod for verification.

Also, I didn’t just randomly diagnose my kid. I looked at clinical journals to see what the disorder was and we matched it to a t in every aspect.
