Nah, the India Lobby was nowhere near as powerful in the 90s as it is now. Although there was a case of a Hindu suing McDonalds along with vegans for not properly labelling the fries as being cooked in beef tallow, they switched to seed oils because they were seen as a healthier alternative, and because some millionaire had a heart attack after eating too much McDonalds and decided to crusade against the use of animal fats in their cooking.
