So are we not worried about the 100 ton nuclear reactor at sea that just got whacked by a Panamanian bulk carrier?

best case scenario is nothings fucked but we have to spent 2 billion opening her up like a can and making sure every single screw is still happy, Nuclear reactors ON LAND are temperamental at best, how do you think a 25+ year old one out on the sea likes it when you wack it with the equivalent of smacking a football helmet with your head inside wtih a ball peen hammer? you'd both probably like it about the same.
Nuclear reactors are pretty safe when you build them properly and don't do what the Soviets did and completely fuck up your safety shutdown system.

I love how the Left wing did a complete 180 on RFK just because they were told too by the media. They used to be all for organic foods, hating big pharma and getting petroleum based dyes out of our food supply. They turned on a dime like sheep being hearded by a barking dog.

The Right Wing also did a 180 too as they were all for "muh business, if you dont like it don't buy it". I feel that was a tad more organic political persuasion though, and also a bit of a backlash to the Covid health mandates. Exact opposite of Sheep behavior.
Sort of a wake up call realizing that corporations can just act as the fourth branch of government to destroy your life, and get fat government paychecks to do it.

literally just don't build them in a disaster zone or build them to excessive tolerance with modern guidelines and you're perfectly good

Guess I'm in the majority being very optimistic about RFK Jr.

One of the big sticking points he brings up in every speech and podcast appearance is how our regulatory bodies are "captured" meaning the people who are meant to police mega-corps are instead working for them. He seems to have a solid understanding of how it works and I can't wait to see what he does to fix it. I suggest guillotines.

Ill bet the guy who took off in this 100 million dollar jet thought the same thing and he dident even need a Panamanian bulk carrier to whack it out of operation
Aircraft can be manoeuvrable or they can be stable. Fighters choose manoeuvrability. Aircraft carriers are built to eat a torpedo and limp back to shore.

I don't think he would or even can as he has no say over USDA, but RFK really needs to go after subsidies for products used in processed oils and HFCS. Those are just as bad as the synthetic colors we use. It will have some economic groans and pains but it's worth it.

I think consuming as a or providing alcohol to a visibly pregnant woman should be a felony ngl
as a positive side effect, fat chicks will clear out of bars once they no longer get served because its impossible to tell
I have a relative who's fat and a dumbass and didn't realize they were pregnant until five months in and while she's not a heavy drinker she is a regular one. Between that and the whole raising your kid with an iPad as well as being a doormat for her son it makes me question less "was I this dysfunctional at his age?"

Likewise, a cadre of classically-educated architects will effectively eliminate the 'bad' traditional architecture (i.e. McMansions) in the US- which is effectively caused by B-tier modernist architects tasked with design traditional architecture for tasteless developers despite lacking the knowledge of how to do so. The damage will have to be slowly undone- starting off with less-ornate traditional styles like late forms of Art Deco- but it's quite possible to have it done well since traditional architecture is really more about proportions, and effective results can be attained by switching skins while retaining the building systems inside.
So I wanted to come back to this (and I should probably be posting ina better thread, but whatever) because someone else just put up a video talking about this sort of thing.

Forgive the soyface, because he's making a really interesting point: it's all because of caulk.

Basic thesis is modern architecture is so bloody boring because construction methods have changed. A lot of early 20thcentury architecture rests on the reality that construction is an imperfect process, so adjustments will have to be made in the process, therefore much of the detail exists to hide and exploit those imperfections to create a greater whole. Then he talks about how shitty the UN building is.

A ship might be able to, a nuclear reactor cant, if flow of water over the core is disrupted or even shifted, you will start dealing with immediate and long term knock on effects

this isent some ford ranger that can get rear ended and the boys just get a crowbar and bend it back into shape

Im not saying there is any catastrophic damage im saying with such a precise and high energy device like a nuclear reactor, something like a fucking bulk carrier steaming into its foundations is going to require some major fucking inspection to ensure nothing got whacked even a fraction of an inch out of alignment.

its not a risk you can take, they will likely dry dock it for repairs, realize the costs of getting and and checking would be nearly the same as refitting it and its due for a 30 year check up in 4 years anyway. Ill bet they try to use this as justification for a totatl refurb of its powerplants and systems.

Big meta lol is when we go and do all of that the second a hot war breaks out we will have to keep all our carriers in port or risk waves of cheap drones taking out a small city's worth of men, material and equipment.
