Giving a quick look at Walmart, you can buy 1.5lb of frozen crab legs (and some of that weight will be shells and brine) for just under $20. After some quick math, and just bothering to look at the first eight results, you can buy, for the same price: ~3lbs of ground chuck (and even more if choosing cheaper options), some 7lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breast, or 4 or so pounds of pork chops.

At worst, you get twice as much food per dollar (by weight) buying regular protein over crab legs.

Vance will carry the torch come 2028, and will do so while being undeniably presidential. The Dems had Obama, and are still running on his fumes. An orator of that caliber is once in a generation, and now they have NO ONE in their lineup to can go toe-to-toe with Vance. So they'll double down on the couch fucking shit. It's all they have.

A lot of Obama's skill came from the fact that he was able to be cool while making a point, and as much as I dislike him that's exactly what he did. Guy would show up, point out a bunch of things wrong, imply that Bush was an evil moron while presenting himself as the alternative. He embodied what it was to be a progressive at the time and if you were someone who was affected by one of the problems he was talking about (namely healthcare and watching Iraq vets come back looking like they lost their minds) he seemed like a godsend. It did help that GW Bush, Dick Chaney really, was pretty god damn evil.

Vance's style is completely different. For as much as Reddit likes to talk about "muh logic an facts", Vance actually does it and can do it in record time. He'll bring up a couple of examples of things going to shit and then pinpoint his exact solution to them and exactly why it'll work in under a minute. The debate where Tim Waltz looked like he saw a ghost was a perfect example of that, the two hags moderating barely had a chance to cut him off and when they did he was clear enough that you could hear him anyway.

Honestly the two of them would have one hell of a debate, I'd love to see it. I don't think modern Obama can hold a candle to Vance though, he lost all his power when he mic dropped his cell phone and was proven wrong.

The warrant is primarily required for search and seizure. While in hot pursuit of someone, if they feel there is a danger life, or the destruction of evidence they may forgo the warrant to secure the area. They can also in some areas when they believe a felony is currently being committed.

What the idiots arent realizing is ICE has a warrant...but not a search warrant. They have arrest warrants. Search warrants are to look for evidence of a crime. Arrest warrants are to search for and apprehend people. If police have an arrest warrant for someone, and probably cause to believe that person is in a location, they have the right to enter to search for and apprehend that person.

Also, what are they gonna do? There is no evidence that can be thrown out because it was obtained without a search warrant. The persons is getting deported.

The 4th Amendment is generally referred to as regarding privacy in someone's home. I would love to see the argument made and proven that someone in the United States illegally cannot have a home, since their act of being in the US is in itself illegal. It has been recognized however that a hotel for instance is considered someones "home" while they are paying for staying there.

Steaks and crab aren't where the EBT money is going. Or rather, if you see someone piling up their cart with steaks and crab, then paying for it with EBT, they're trading the steaks and crab for drugs, not eating them.

The biggest waste of EBT money happens in bodegas and small liquor stores that also sell food. The EBT recipients sell their EBT for 50 cents on the dollar in cash, and the store owner just swipes through different groceries until the card is empty and puts the groceries back on the shelf.

Some of the bodegas keep a box of products behind the counter specifically for this purpose. A lot of these bodegas run numbers or other gambling games out of their stores as well. Some sell single cigarettes and illegally packaged food such as jerky, popcorn, candy, and peanuts in the shell, bought in bulk and repackaged in small plastic sandwich bags. They rarely sell drugs out of the store, because if they lose their liquor license the game is over. Some of them will refer druggies for a finder's fee from the dealer and return EBT business from the druggie.

I know this because I used to live next door to a bodega and also bought single cigarettes, candy, jerky, and peanuts from under the counter. I had relatively friendly relations with the store owners as well (as friendly as one can get with a predator). I also got questioned by the cops the night the bodega got robbed for their gambling winnings, which they kept in cash in a floor safe. I had noticed lights left on in the store at night, but didn't know about the gambling before this point. The cops visited us pretty regularly about problems at the bodega, and that's why we kept our doors locked and drove nails the window sills so they could only be opened a few inches.

Second, a very short search of Zillow shows roughly 2200 houses in DC currently for sale and of those 770 were listed in the last 15-30 days. That's more than 31% of the current listings, all put up after Trump took office. Now I don't have any historical data regarding real estate in the area (I don't care that much, look it up yourself) but sans that it's not an insignificant amount of houses and the timing lines up with Trump taking office and firing feds. Make of that what you will.

The building styles aren‘t lost. You just have to draw up a decent diagram and you’re done. The problem is the current corporate-social intermingling that refuses to let people have nice things.

Dear lord I know I’m guilty of overestimating how easily we can bounce back from a bad situation, but I can literally take a long drive and find some really nice looking new construction.

There has to simply be someone that wants it, and most professional architects will still be able to build it. They’ll do it gladly because it is what they signed up for in the first place. Remember that they grew up gazing at the marvels of building construction and wanting to make their marks as well.

As someone who does construction adjacent work it really is an amazing feeling when you run into the kind of person who says "I want this nice thing and I want it done right" and I get to flex all the skills I've accrued over the decades and make/do something I'm truly proud of, especially if I'm working with some goofy irregular materials

I won't go into specifics but I was working on a proper mansion one time and the owner really went overboard and ordered an entire production lot of solid hardwood doors to be sure that every door in the place would match and when everything was done there were still 20-30 doors left over that they didn't have any use for so my dad and I gave a pitch for them and we got to repurpose them in a decorative manner and the owner was super thrilled with our idea and we got to spend a few weeks putting that plan into place.
