I'm no fan of quickplay either (it pretty much killed my favorite servers), but it was at the very least functional in that it consistently got you enjoyable games that could last hours.

When possible, my microphone button is always held down (it's v so I have to press space with the side of my thumb) and I am having fun talking to people (unless they kick me, of course, happens way too often.) The only difference is that I prioritize the victory of my team.

Then hop on competitive and shut up. Some people like the social aspect of the game. Some people like sitting in idle or trade servers and just goofing off. Some people like playing alternative gamemodes like that TF2Ware warioware mode, or Parkour Fortress. You can't control how everyone plays the game.
Tailor your experience with community servers. You could do that during the Quickplay era as well. My local 24/7 server at the time had HL players from the national team frequently popping in. Depending on your region, there are still 24/7s with sweaty players outside of Inceltopia. The problem is that this is still a niche, no matter what year of TF2 you pick. You got better and struggles turned into pub stomps. Asking Daddy Valve to fix a self-imposed problem is going full Uncle Dane.
