There he goes pretending to be a fan again. I'll provide some additional context. Steam is not a great metric because most people use the app straight from the site. The official forums is full of doomers and trolls. The numbers are dropping but I don't think -75% is accurate. We're in the middle of a content lull so most people did what they could and are probably taking breaks. It's still a divisive expansion but Grummz is just pretending he knows why and I don't know if it was ever brought up but he was outted for not even clearing the base game.

Games like Civ will have pretty long lifespans, with a ridic amount of content released as DLC. When the next game is released, it feels bad because its going back to a base game without all of the extra content. After so many occassions of being disappointed by the same thing happening, there is a trend in the 4X fanbase of waiting for a newly released game to get some DLC before you pick it up.

The core mechanic of Civ7 is seemingly unpopular too. Rather than pick a civilisation, with a leader to give you various buffs, you now pick a leader that can change your civilisation as you progress. So its more tactical flexibility, but you really lose the identity of whatever nationality you're playing.

Finally, Civ7 didn't seem to have too good of a marketing campaign, and basically coasted off of being a part of the Civ series. I didn't even realise it was coming out until like 2 days before it released, because I saw it on Steam.

I'm not a super fan defending the game (I put two dedicated hours into it and couldn't stop thinking about how much I'd rather be playing Total War) but blaming everything on putting non-coombait women into a game is exhausting to listen to.
