I mentioned PointlessHub here before, and despite pretty much all of his videos being about very dumb movies, he doesn't try to make excuses for why he likes them. He readily admits that movies like Bayformers and basically everything Roland Emmerich has put out are objectively not good movies, but he still enjoys them for what they are. And on the flip side, when a movie doesn't work, he doesn't shy away from discussing why that is.
It's because he's a narcissist. Normal people who don't have fucked up brains can just like things, but people with a grandiose sense of self need everything to revolve around them and justify why they're so great. It can't just be "I like popcorn action flicks." It has to be "I love the greatest movies ever created in cinematic history and I'm an underappreciated scholar. My love for these fine pieces of cinema will be respected by any historian bright enough to examine my life's work!"
