UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The most sympathetic spin I can think of is that the payments started bouncing once the owners probate closed the account

And then the numpty just shrugged his shoulders and thought "well I've done the best I could" and ignored the issue thereafter
It's possible they were actually up to date on rent but the landlord's heirs decided they did not want to be landlords, gave notice to quit, this lot didn't go, and eventually the heirs have gone to court to recover possession of the house to sell it. I suspect that is probably the case here. The constant phoning of the council has been to insist that the council stop the heirs perfectly legally evicting them to sell the house. Which the council can't do. They can't go on the housing list whilst they still have somewhere to live, even if they are being chucked out, so the council can't treat them as homeless until they are evicted.

I wouldn't be their landlord either btw, so the heirs haven't done anything wrong here. This is just the reality of living as a tenant.

Are we going to play Guess the Race?
Facebook chatter around the article says Romanian. Not my first guess for Birmingham but we'll see.

Something only likely to get more common as successive governments make being a private landlord harder to do. Increasingly those inheriting properties will not even want to provide a few months leeway as giving a vague indication they might want to become landlords is significantly less of a headache than saying, "the property will be sold as soon as we are able to. Please find somewhere else to live."

So the Kier thing is a soft concede to Trump because it co-signs Trump's peace offer. Trump has made it clear that he does not like Zelensky and to be honest, I don't, the guy is a grifter and a footsoldier to Globohomo. Starmer HAS to go with Trump because if he does not he faces a backbench civil war as they have made it clear to trade and deal with the US. Starmer also feels external pressure from Trump due to the tariffs, and Starmer faces a rebellion again. This was a very cunning move not only by Labour backbenchers but also by Trump because he presented his chips before the bet. This is the problem when you do not have a leader with charisma or the ability to exert pressure. Trump's idols for politics are Churchill and Truman, 2 powerhouses, Starmer knows his 100-year deal fucked off his party along with the people. He has potential corruption questioning too regarding the Chaegus and a judge who is a CCP shill.

Starmer has thought that each scandal could be swept under or ignored for months, but he is so dumb that he does not understand they had repercussions. On top of that, he has an inept cabinet and a chancellor who is getting her accounts dredged for 750,000 of fraudulent expenses. This is someone wildly out of death and unfit for power because he cannot handle power. The stupid nigga thought being the PM was being the same as the judiciary. Sadly, the only 2 I respect are Cooper and Raynor. Cooper has learned to understand her limits and Raynor has played a blinder in powerplays. She has yu gi ohed her way into a cous without calling it because Starmer does not have the power or influence to side with Europe but has Reeves pulling him so his party will no confidence him.

The next few weeks in politics are going to be wild.

Hey all, remember how they told us the Southport stabber had nothing to do with terrorism and it was impossible to know his motives? Turns out that's because he cleared his internet search history and thus completely trumped our investigators to the degree they had to go begging to the Americans for help.
The FBI and US Department of Justice have agreed to help UK police investigate Southport killer Axel Rudakubana.

The 18-year-old was jailed for a minimum of 52 years in January after murdering three girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in July last year.

In a joint statement, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Merseyside Police said: “The Southport attack has devastated the lives of the victims, their families and the wider community.

“A specialist liaison CPS prosecutor in the United States has been working with international partners to obtain material which may be relevant.

“We are thankful to the US Department of Justice and the FBI for their ongoing assistance and the importance which they have placed upon our request.”

According to reports, investigators now hope to recover deleted searches from the killer’s Google and Microsoft accounts within weeks.

Police discovered a number of devices during a search of Rudakubana’s home in Banks, Lancashire, after he fatally stabbed Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, at a dance class in Southport on 29 July last year.

The 18-year-old cleared his internet history before he left to travel to The Hart Space just after 11am.

A search on social media site X for the stabbing of Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel in Australia in April last year, made minutes before Rudakubana left home, was the only thing that remained, police have said.

To uncover what Rudakubana had been searching for in the days and months before his stabbing spree, detectives needed to go through US companies Microsoft, which owns the search engine Bing, and Google, which owns the browser Chrome.

Senior investigating officer detective chief inspector Jason Pye had said in January that the process to get the information was ongoing, but “could be years”.

If the incident had been classed as a terror attack, he said, the process could have been easier.

He said: “Our case has always been, based on the evidence, it’s not counterterrorism. There is nothing in terms of ideology.

“So I couldn’t go down that path to try and get that information any quicker.

“There is a process of getting it quicker, but because it’s in the serious organised crime, major crime category, unfortunately, I can’t get it as quick as we would like.

“The process of getting that could be years. It could take us years.”
Useless, lying cunts.

I like the precise wording. BBC and Telegraph - former being government aligned and the latter more conservative - use the more determined 'ready', as though prepared to do so. BBC uses wording that makes his goals seem more benevolent, their thumbnail putting him in a suit. Meanwhile the Telegraph's use of 'British troops' is more militaristic and emphasising that British soldiers will be used in a foreign conflict, and put him in camouflage to make him look more like a soldier. Independent uses 'prepared' and 'willing to', which are less sure but still willing, echoing the BBC and Telegraph. In the end, I think Starmer putting this out there is to make himself appear stronger, since I think most of the British public see him as impotent and bland.

Trump has made it clear that he does not like Zelensky
On the contrary, he's been quite friendly with him. Zelensky was one of his few allies during his first term and never turned on him during the biden admin. Trump values that sort of loyalty, which is why he started forming his detailed Ukraine policy by having zelensky visit him in September last year. The victory plan zelensky outlined soon after had trump's fingers all over it; every announcement since has followed it, from mineral rights, to increased euro military involvement, to a drawdown of us troops in Europe, with only the Arab summit not being an obvious part of it. Whatever kayfabe is playing out at the moment shouldn't be taken as trump disliking the man.

It's also worth remembering that trump likes to publicly butter up opponents when he's about to turn the screws in a negotiation.

Am I imagining it but wasn't there something about Zelensky being a grifter who wouldn't release some info on Hunter Biden that Trump wanted?

It's been a long time and Commode Starmer is going to behave like a twat regardless of what the grown ups are doing.

During their first call, which included discussion of releasing a weapons shipment that the Obama admin had repeatedly held up, Trump wanted zelensky to re-open an investigation into hunter biden and burisma. This conversation was used as the pretext to impeach him for "quid pro quo". Zelensky defended him from the accusations. Iirc he even offered to come over and speak in his behalf, but congress never took him up on the offer.
