Bad webcomics

So this is why Niko isn't out often.

Is that supposed to be a bear? Why is it so tiny and meek looking in spite of apparently being a senior?
Straight out of a 90s PSA lol. The seniors being "mean" animals is the icing on the cake.
Niko's about to offer Kai cigarettes in the most 90s-ass "say no!" commercial manner imaginable, I'm calling it now. (For a "bad" comic, I look forward to this shit's updates way more than I probably should, if only because I NEED to know what happens next and Kai's presence keeping it from being a straight up schizo-land.)

Awkward Zombie is usually a good comic but decided to go TDS today, hitting all the cringe lines like it's 2016 again.

I'm perfectly happy to stop reading a comic (or watching a series, reading a book, etc) when they get preachy like this. I come to these things for entertainment, if they don't want to deliver that I'll just leave.
"Things are getting pretty scary" when nothing bad or "scary" has gone on since Trump won the election.

But boy that's a shame, Awkward Zombie had some great comics, but I guess I won't give her any attention anymore. After all, she flat-out told me not to.

Kai please take us away from these walking stereotypes.

Okay, place your bet on who's going to be more unlikeable after this introduction, Harper or Niko? Having absolutely zero boundaries with Kai and shoving him out the door versus fucking up Percy's lungs and possibly being even more of a jerk. I hardly remember what Piper's like, we know nothing about Percy despite that being his body, and I am hoping for Kai's sake that the last one is at least somewhat reasonable.
Good lord I hate how I'm actually getting invested in this. Invested for all the wrong reasons, but invested nonetheless.:stress:

At this point, this comic is like a car crash or similar event, you come across it and are horrified, but yet, you stay to see what will happen and if anyone makes it out by the end.

At this moment, I'd say Niko. Harper was an asshole, sure, but fucking up somebody's lungs while they're not really in a position to do anything about it is WAY worse, then again, I'm almost expecting Niko to be more reasonable than they look with how quickly the comic went from "Wow, these are scaaary teenagers that are bears and crocodiles (and a tiny bird) and shit!" to "Man, your father is a total dick, bear guy!" in one page. (I kinda wanna see how the fuck that conversation ended if the dad he said that shit to was ALSO a bear, but actually adult sized.)
I can only assume they're going for an overarching mystery by never showing us what the original body's personality was like and only inferring it, but I'd be hesitant to give this shit too much credit when it comes to writing, especially when I'm SURE they're never gonna acknowledge how Niko smoking probably fucks with the other personalities as well since they're all sharing the same body.

The comic's so strange I just wanna see what the fuck happens in the next page, which is honestly a huge selling point for it. It's actually got a big leg up over Children of the Light in that Kai provides a really good viewpoint as a normal teen in a normal-ish setting who's worried for his friend and just as confused about all this shit as we are, in contrast to...the fuck was his name? The Watership Down motherfucker who's already part of a comparatively more abstract setting and is an abrasive little shit in every notable interaction, which is a really bad trait to have in a main character who you're meant to sympathize with, in a role and setting where he's gonna have to interact with people a lot.

I’m 50/50. Salty did consider it to be “underaged drug use” but it does raise the question of whether Percy’s body has a nicotine dependency. It doesn’t seem like Niko is active long enough for that to happen, but it would explain both Piper’s tweaking and Harper’s behavior to some extent. Then again, a lot of the characterization strikes me as rather careless, so I think she either did not consider those things, or, if she did, she didn’t research the psychological effects very much.

Not just underage drug use, "Drug abuse/ADDICTION" is listed in the warnings. It's already enough of a suspension of disbelief to imagine them all using Percy's body without his parents or the school noticing, but I just don't buy that they could have a nicotine dependency that they're all capable of keeping under wraps and it not being a much bigger deal.
Seriously, the author feels like one of those teenagers who google mental disorders and thought they were cool enough to toss around without any actual respect or research put into them, so I'm waiting to see how the fuck that's written.

People like the author like to pick and choose what matters and what doesn’t. Vivziepop is actually a good example of this wrt drugs and addiction. She plays everything rather safe so she can focus on her gay drama. Or, more generally, Rebecca Sugar with her ignoring the space empire so she can play lesbian dollhouse. I imagine Salty is a lot like that, because she’s the exact kind of person that throws in illnesses without research or considering how they work. Suspension of disbelief doesn’t matter to them as much as “feels,” regardless of the effect the execution has on the audience. To Salty’s credit, she gets to the point, but that point has a weak foundation because she doesn’t think anything through.

Those two examples hit the nail on the fucking head, man.
Vivziepop with her characters that do nothing but swear and kill people, but "noo, poor Angel is a widdle addict and sex work victim", or in Helluva Boss, the protagonists are mass murderers, but we're meant to feel sorry for them and Stolas when 9 times out of 10 the people against them are nowhere close to them in terms of villainy (Last I checked, the main conflicts of the show right now are just Stolas' actions having consequences and interrupting his mostly non-consensual wattpad relationship.) and both shows are just filled with crammed in themes it has no idea how to properly handle because the writer is too immature to write or understand them, as well as too apathetic to do any real research into them.

Steven Universe meanwhile got so up its own ass with its shitty family and relationship metaphors that were applied to a horrific space empire despite the constantly growing incompatibilities with them that it was still having lesbian relationship drama while the dictators of that same empire were on the way to slaughter everyone and it's generally treated with the exact same gravitas despite being overwhelmingly different scenarios. (I haven't watched the shit in years, but I still remember clear as day that the diamonds and Homeworld were WAY too intense versions of the standard "evil alien empire" trope for any metaphors putting them in a positive light to not immediately break down when you look at the setting and story and remember "holy shit these people are monsters, I don't give a fuck about them being sad".)

I've been reading this thread, went back about halfway through it

I have to say:

- Tatsuya Ishida's political alignment evolving like a digimon. Not like a canon arc, but like a videogame digimon when you don't really get the mechanics yet.

- I think the moment you have one of the 'warren' engaging in drugs or directly harmful activities, they are in the most literal sense not a healthy thing to have.

- Pouch Creatures is the best nuzlocke I've ever found.

I need to introduce you all to Champion of the Melting Pot sometime.

It's from the movie Magnolia. Tom Cruise character teaches his audience of angry incels how to pick up women.

I have no idea what this has to do with Judaism. Ishida is a very weird person.
I think its just saying that like PUA's put women down so they will stay with them. The Jews are putting white people down so they won't kick them out.
