This is what gets me: the Trump deal seems to be "We will turn Ukraine into a resource colony on your border, shielded by a force that, at best, is full of NATO personnel. In five years, when the Ukrainians decide it's time for round 2, that's your problem."
Ukraine will never be weaker, and the west will never have less leverage, so why would the war stop now?

The part about ports also strikes me as another non-starter. The only major ports Ukraine has now are Odessa, Mykolaiv, and Kiev. Letting the US/NATO have Kiev and Mykolaiv would maybe be tolerable since Russia or Belarus could directly control or blockade the entry into Mykolaiv and Kiev respectively. But Odessa? Uh-uh, no way, zero percent chance Russia agrees to a NATO nation having a port literally next door to Crimea/Sevastopol.

I'm always surprised by how much the media and others don't realise, whether deliberately or not, that Trump is a deal-maker, a negotiator. You should judge him on the end result, not his opening offer. He always goes in shooting for the moon, but if he realises that the best he's going to get is two pork pies and a pack of crisps then he'll settle for two pork pies and a pack of crisps and move on. He clearly wants out of Ukraine asap. Anything beyond that is a bonus.

Every time you read about HIMARS or Kalibr in the news, that's a satellite-guided system. Russia's FAB-to-glide-bomb converter kits also include GLONASS

Not an artillery expert so i dont know but i am 100% sure even an el-cheapo quadcopter can fly a lot farther than 100mt. i have seen them flying km's away and back.
also prices dont scale up that steep. a larger drone will be somewhat more expensive but not 25x. a DJI Matrice 600, with 6kg payload, cost usd 5k, it can be probably built for half that. a DJI Agra with 50kg payload will cost 25k but has a lot of fancy features you dont really need so cut that to 10-12k.
does Excalibur really have inertial guidance? even if it does though, inertial is way less accurate.
wikipedia prices one excalibur at 112k apiece. thats a lot of money for an artillery shell...
