We used to be the party of the working man. The party of low tariffs and free coinage of silver 16-1 against gold. We were the party of Cleveland, Bryan, and Wilson. Today, we are the party of ruffians that want to turn this country into hell in a handbasket. We stand for no principles. The honorable New York governor Al Smith has bravely opposed this "New Deal" hogwash that we now have. Remember when Roosevelt promised to reduce gov spending and balance our budget? As Cole Porter says, anything goes.
 
When? In 1828? In 1860? In 1912? In 1964? In 1988? In 2008? Don't lie nigger, you were always the party of the social and financial elite.
Perhaps post-civil-war that is true. But the Democratic party of Andrew Jackson was certainly not that- Jackson was the definition of a populist and was hated by the Washington elites at the time.
