Cartoon Industry thread - Showcasing the Spergery of the Animation Industry

Did a tranny write this? No girl has ever reacted this way getting her first period.
Every woman who writes TV shows has precisely two talking points they write about:

1) Periods
2) Weird guys they dated

EDIT TO ADD: There's actually a third, silly me:

3) "I did something weird and creepy on a date and this guy who was way out of my league wasn't having it."

I don't intend to share my menarche story in this thread, but I don't think ANY modern cartoon has really encapsulated the feeling of getting your first period. The only media I've seen that 100% honest-to-god gets it is Aisle 8A, that episode of King of the Hill where Connie gets hers. Everyone around you acts weird, you don't want to run and play like a kid but you're definitely not a "woman" now, because you're still a literal child. It's awkward and uncomfortable but after a few days the crisis slows and everything will be okay. The way Bobby and Connie reconcile at the end of the episode is precious and funny, and honestly that's probably one of my top KOTH episodes.

Aside from literal pad-angels (which why not use the wings as wings?) there was another modern cartoon period that pissed me off and it was in The Ghost and Molly McGee. Libby, the anxious wreck, gets her period at a sleepover with Molly and the rich kid and, despite this being the catalyst of the conflict of the episode, it's a total nothingburger. Rich girl gives Libby new pajamas and asks Molly to get Libby some kind of product, and that's the end of it for Libby. The conflict is Molly doesn't feel mature enough because she hasn't gotten her period. You mean to tell me this kid who is so anxious she got a song about it for the Disney Channel commercials didn't immediately call her mom and lose her marbles when she saw a drop of blood in her panties?? How is MOLLY the one having the crisis here? And why does the rich kid suggest TAMPONS for Libby when it's her very first period?? Am I insane? You've never opened your fuckin' vagina before and shit HURTS the first few times you try to put anything in there, why would you ever give a kid a tampon with no kind of guidance or instruction when it's her very first period? PADS! NOTHING INSERTIVE!! Oh my GOD!

Apparently it was written by a chick named Liz Hara, who apparently is also a writer and puppeteer for Sesame Street.

That alone explains so much...

Yesss, I love that episode. Maybe the problem now is a symptom of the larger issue of these people not being able to write for shit.

Thats crazy. Noooo waaayyy on top of the trauma of a first period could I have ever inserted a tampon. The fuck? Do these women not remember what it was like?

  • Encanto
  • Turning Red
Do I need to point out again the characters are clearly self-inserts?

EDIT: Re: period shit, I knew a girl in middle school who used tampons. Think some girls either were not told to wait until they're older before using them, or that was all the mother had on her and she never thought about getting her young daughter pads.

But also keep in mind feminists literally worship their menstrual cycle, so they don't think it's wrong to be up-front about it to "defeat" how stigmatized it is because men don't like hearing about it want to keep women down. I kinda wonder if Big Mouth was the beginning of the end of animated coming-of-age stories even though that show was never meant for children to begin with despite it having pedo-vibes.

Bit dramatic of you. I think most girls for the past 30 years just wake up, see the blood, and think "oh that must be that blood thing I've heard so much about", then ask mom or a friend or the vending machine in the school toilet for a pad.

I think either your experience was unusually calm, or you're not female. Almost everyone I know has had a fucked up first period. You can know you'll get it eventually, know the medical process of menstruation, and have parents who openly discuss stuff with you and support you 100%, but it doesn't mean that it isn't a shock and isn't uncomfortable. Like I said, Aisle 8A was a fantastic representation, because Connie clearly understood what her period was (and told Hank even!) and had support from the Hills, from her mother, and her dad even ruined his speech and flew across the country just to come back and be there for Connie, but she was still scared. Being scared/shocked/worried is basically the most normal reaction to your first period ever. Blithely waking up to it like "oh hm blood" and going about your day without giving a shit isn't.

Allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your stunning and brave transition! Do you have your new TrooName™ picked out yet?

I don't even remember friends (except for one girl who had it happen to her in the middle of morning school assembly) having much of a problem with it. It's not even always obvious blood anyway, sometimes it's already just annoying brown stains on your pyjamas when you wake up. Being overly dramatic about periods is troonshit. It's just a thing that happens and it's not a disability or something to be weirdly excited about like some of them are.

If you're over the age of 10 your mum's explained to you what the word "period" in all those TV shows and commercials is. Why is there such drama over this? Only the most islamic women would be scared to ask someone to take them to the store.

It’s shocking when it suddenly takes you by surprise in public and there’s a disgusting mess. Hope that helps.
That aside, I noticed that a lot of Spanish speaking Xitter users are reacting to the negative attention the episode’s getting, but I don’t care to look at the translations. There’s also fights flaring up among English speaking users.
“Yeesh, what’s next? Gonna make an episode about how puberty gives boys erections and wet dreams?”
“HOW DARE YOU COMPARE PERIODS TO BONERS!!”
I somehow can’t help but think both sides have some level of retardation.
