Tad bit off topic but why is it the other thread on the war in Ukraine a borderline a Russian circle jerk? There's some worthwhile conversation to be had in both but in the other one it seems to be mostly people talking about how Russia is absolutely in the right and the Ukies are all hohol piggers that deserve to be ground in to dust. I understand of course having a pro Ukr or Rus spin but to that extent is surprising. I'm not advocating being a fence sitter but not a lot of people seem to really look at it objectively. Maybe I'm just retarded but it feels like twitter almost.

Russia for a decade or two has gotten to enjoy this narrative in right wing circles that it's based and trad defenders or white people. I remember articles way back around 2008 or so about how Putin was focusing on promoting fertility rates in Russia, which a lot of right wing people loved, while ignoring all the stuff about HIV, gay rape, and so on.

So any criticism or attack on Russia culturally gets seen as an attack on all white people. It's a bit goofy since a lot of these stories really did come directly from Russia Today and were pure propaganda pieces, but people at it up.

Now that we have Russia attacking a country full of white people, even massacring an entire town early on, the major pro-white far right people didn't really have a way of changing their programming and decided Russia was doing this to defend white people from Jews/Westerners. So even if you present them stories of Russia tearing down churches they'll just go "nuh uh" and continue on believing Russia is the based, trad, Christian nation defending whites.

People exaggerate the effect of the Democrats on this. The narrative that Russia is the pro-white anti-degeneracy nation has been getting perpetuated for a couple decades now with next to no resistance and now is accepted as common knowledge in far right circles.

It's why you can much more easily piss these people off by pointing out how impoverished most Russians are and why anyone thought it was an amazing gotcha from Tucker to show off that grocery stores exist in Russia. As it pretty much means hitting at the fantasy they have that those running Russia like Putin are defending a well off white populace rather than that they're just greedily trying to take advantage of them and hardly care if they die in a ditch.

Makes it funny how outraged some of them can get when you point out how much better off people are in a lot of ex-soviet countries in comparison to Russians.

When I call Trump stupid and immoral, those aren't idle insults. I'm putting names to properties I derived from observations.

An accurate assessment of a person's properties is important for anticipating future outcomes. An intelligent person will generally be more likely to be able bring about results they desire, compared to an unintelligent one. A person with no moral intuitions will pursue ends, and use means, that a scrupulous person will reject.

For example, if you cannot see a difference between right and wrong, and you do not have the cognitive ability to consider the consequences of your actions, why not pursue the path of least resistance? The path that most caters to your personal prejudices and petty grievances?

My interpretation of Trump has the ability to both explain his past actions and anticipate his current ones. This suggests that there's something to it.

Even if the US stops supplying Ukraine and everything stays the same otherwise, Russia would most likely lose, but what leaks from negotiations, which is still rumours, but rumours that align perfectly with public statements by American officials, is that the US may drop sanctions, help rebuild Russian industry, and remove US troops from Europe.
That's a very different proposition.
