If Russia does keep pushing unreasonable demands, this might still be a possibility. And make no mistake, Russia is making unreasonable demands that even Trump likely can't countenance for long. Trump wants the EU guarding whatever border is decided, along with key facilities within Ukraine. Russia doesn't want any military cooperation at all because the presence of NATO troops stymies any future attempts to continue the invasion.

They will keep changing their political positions hundreds of times, if it means they get to have the last laugh over those they envy. That's how tribalism works, it's not logical at all. And saddest thing is, envy just so happens to be the only one out of the 7 deadly sins that brings no pleasure, no satisfaction or joy in the person experiencing it. They are routing for the world being burned down and not even that will be enough to satisfy them, nothing will.
