From what I've lived, I've seen enough sermons and been around enough Christian circles that they'll gladly throw each other under the bus if any of them gets caught deviating from what they view as "living the good, Christian life" just so it makes them look all the better for the rebuke. Meanwhile, a lot of them do very "un-Christian" things themselves behind closed doors or away from the eyes and ears of whatever congregation they're a part of.

Your comparison is ill-suited because it's the same breed of grandstanding, virtue-signaling hypocrisy, just under a different context.
