It's rare for kids to get their own computer at early age. Mother3 knockoffs can be explained with a combination of le quirky + low effort style (even if Mother 3 looks better than all the copies it inspired). It's nothing profound, these troons are not profound. It just needs to be le nostalgic + simple enough they can "mimic" the style. They will never latch onto any high effort style such as late 90s 2D arcade graphics.

Regarding Soulsborne games in general, there have been more than a few times where I had a better time fighting a boss by not locking onto it and just stepping over to its blind spots instead of attempting to evade every single attack head-on. That kind of positioning has another major benefit of allowing you to deal damage without breaking the flow of combat by having to dodge.

To be fair I think this was done due to being made by a far smaller team, if not one person. Real faces would be too much work for what is worth implementing, and it would look bad and uncanny anyways. Plus anime faces are easier to draw
Making a game with multiple endings is already a lot of work, even for a small game. The more you have to add reactions to anything, the more work it takes. I don't care how autistic the green texter is, he just doesn't come across as genre savvy.
