You're a proper chef, right? Is foie gras made from a particular type of duck? The ducks where I live naturally gorge themselves in the fall to prepare for migration so I could theoretically source natural fatty liver for foie gras (and would like to try it sometime). But, I don't know if it'd be any good if it's the wrong species of duck.
Presumably you could find veal that wasn't abused and beaten too, but it's more fun to be inflammatory on the internet

I wonder if thin skinned bitch Jack does read up on himself on the farms?

I mentioned that I could see Jack's Twitter account using Google the other day without clicking on his profile.

Well, guess what? Not anymore.

Looks like he changed his privacy settings yet again.

It's certain types of ducks and geese that enlarge their livers during premigration gorging. The French abuse this process artificially, hence the force feeding. There is Spanish foie gras where they let the birds gorge themselves naturally before butchering them before they migrate. A migratory goose would be your best bet.

I'm aware. I'm asking if the type of duck matters for making foie gras. If not I could just hunt some local duck in the fall after they naturally gorge themselves.
It's the diet that matters and it's frequency. The force fed diet ensures that the liver achieves the desired fat content for foie gras

This is the difference between the livers:

It won't get like that through natural means. When you see ducks stuffing their face with foods, the swelling you see is not from the liver, but from his crop, which is like a pouch birds have in near the throat

There are methods that artificially make livers have that texture though. There's much debate around the subject, some people say there's "humane" methods employed nowadays, but you can never be sure

He frequently gets pissed off that his lame attempts at engagement farming don't work as it is. I wonder how long it'll take for him to realize attempting to lock down his account is going to end up doing the opposite of what he wants.
Fatty thinks that food stamps are still paper, and EBT are BET cards and different than food stamps.

It's amazing how when he's not wrong, he still manages to be retarded.

Is veal, by default, cruel? As in, is it possible to find veal that didn't involve beating the calves like was suggested earlier ITT?

I don't think beating is necessary but it does evolve restricted living space for the calves. Imagine living in a itty bitty cramped space so your muscles stay tender. Chaining your neck down so you can't move. I think we could see alternatives to this, personally. I'd rather employ methods to tender meat post mortem instead of doing this kind of shit.

When you butcher a animal, it's important that it does not get stressed out as the adrenaline alters the flavor of the meat. Hence why you (theoretically) need training to kill pigs for example, with a very precise stab. I've seen cases of unqualified people just straight up stabbing the poor thing like a slasher film because they couldn't get it right.

This is basically the foundation of doing a halal slaughter. The animal must:
  • Be alive and in good health prior to slaughter
  • Not witness the slaughter of another animal
  • Be slaughtered with a very sharp, smooth blade
  • Be killed by a cut that severs the windpipe and all arteries in the neck
Halal law also stipulates not eating from an animal that has been gored (contaminated meat from gut contents), already preyed upon by wild animals (any number of zoonotic diseases), or strangled/bashed on the head (high stress/inhumane).

Religious lunacy aside, I personally think this all makes a lot of sense. It's a relatively humane and quick death for the animal. They don't see other animals dying, keeping stress low and meat quality high.

A lot of these old religious laws regarding food (kosher, halal, etc) make sense if you look at them in the context of their era. Maybe eating tapeworm infested pork or vibrio containing shellfish is a bad idea if you don't have modern cooking standards or refrigeration. It's all just Abrahamic ServSafe training.

Edit bonus: Jewish law on slaughter is very very specific on how the cut is to be made across the throat. tl;dr One smooth slice, no tearing, no stabbing, no stopping. Read more here.

This just isn't true. Stun-killing has been widely documented to reduce stress, and, therefore is more humane. Islamic lobbies and groups sympathetic to them push the myth that halal slaughter is "better" than the more widely used methods in the west.

Listen I come here to make fun of fatty
Is there a demand for a general "food YouTube" thread? I feel like a lot of them deserve some ridicule too, such as Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay (aside from both being Bri*ish).

I know I said I wanted to make a thread on Jamie Oliver but I just couldn't make it funny and/or long enough to warrant a thread.
