I’d argue there’s a fourth group. The IDGAF-Ukrainians who either have left the country, if they had the option, or are still there but would leave if they could.

Three decades of the Ukrainian experiment in statecraft has taught them that the state doesn’t give a fuck about them, (yet still demand loyalty since they at least don’t throw people in camps) so their only interests is to look after themselves.

These are the people who still live in Ukraine but in hiding so they won’t get bussified. The kind of people who know that politicians and businessmen steal, but instead of being morally outraged, they dream of one day being able to steal from fellow Ukrainian themselves since it’s the only way of life they know.

This group of Ukrainians is probably smaller than it was before the war, when they suddenly got a golden ticket to leave, but is still numerous. They’ll accept whatever satrap Russia, or the EU, installs and hope that he will steal slightly less than their previous ruler.

Ukrainians are all over New York City, there's some where I live but most flocked to Brooklyn. I haven't been to Brooklyn in a while but the ones around me don't talk about the war. Most of the Ukrainians I know were relieved to have gotten out, I don't get the feeling they want to move back. Only the hardcore Banderite types went back (and died, from what I hear). Ukraine was a shithole before the war, why would they go back to it?

The IDGAF Ukrainians that survive are going to be fine, they only have to worry about the nationalists among them.
