You're thinking too much about it tbh. Streaming Phil is easy, the audience is there, and word of mouth goes out quick.

The most barebones videos about DSP get dozens of comments almost automatically.
The barrier of entry to become a "detractor" is extremely, extremely low and you are really guaranteed viewership from it.

I do not believe DSP is full of shit when he says the Side Scrollers and his detractors mostly use him for views/engagement, it is very much true. Whether or not those "detractors" use it as a full time job or just a stepping stone to get a bunch of DSP's hatedom varies though.

You are overthinking it. TBS created a new hub with TBS in the center and the 4 main hosts, in praxis only Alt. Then you have an inner ring of befriended content creators, then people who are active in the community like Caesar Augustus. Since they made and make a lot of contests where people get involved and upload stuff to YouTube, you might as well just post regular DSP stuff, since you already started recording a song etc. Some of these people get a small following and get invited to TBS, etc.

I am not saying btw that this was a big content creation cluster masterplan, it just is something that happened.

He’s a white guy from the Midwest. He continues to affect that retarded trill and a few other tics despite a year+ of negative feedback. He’s made at least one video where he said he was trying a different voiceover style and the trills and rolls and “I seen” were completely absent.

I said it a few pages back but I think he thinks he’s trapped in talking like this. I think he’s wrong. Talk normally and I bet people will stop commenting on it quickly. People want to like him but this nonsense gets in the way.

There's a reason they were like a year behind on messages. It's still better than back when they had actual call-ins, but that's not really a high bar.

I think ALT knows he's been getting too deep in the sauce doing restreams every day which is why he's been branching out as of late. You can only endure so much DSP before you become a cow yourself or get burnt out, and doing that almost daily for months is really pushing it.

What differentiates doing videos from livestreaming is the technical barrier to entry. To make a video shitting on Phil, you need basic storyboarding and video editing skills. Whereas if you stream it, you just hit the "go live" button in OBS and pull up whatever you wanted to show. The comments are translated into chatters and engagement, and you even get live feedback. It's quick, easy, and simple (which is why streaming is so popular these days).

I'd argue that (re)streaming is the cancer that is killing detracting™ because there's so many people that do it that don't contribute anything. Restreams are their own kind of slop but it seems like half of the people that stream are just too lazy to make a 10-20 minute video.

I have had to switch Alt's restreams off because the amount of pausing is excessive. Christ one of his restreams in my time finished at nearly 11pm (euro time). I know it constantly gets outraged responses from the detractor community when Phil asserts that if he shuts down, they stop being relevant, but it's definitely true. Most detractor channels crater in view counts when they (inevitably) try and stream non-DSP content. Imagine pouring tens or hundreds (or even thousands) of hours into online content creation and still needing Phil Burnell to have any kind of relevance.

On the flip side, if you're Craig or Steve or whoever else, why not do a DSP stream once in a blue moon? Detractors are usually good for a couple grand to hear someone outside the typical circle talk smack about The Guy.

007 won’t find anything on Snood. The Detractor Beam Discord and their server are some of the last places where people can talk openly without being hit with hateful slurs. There’s nothing out there on Snood—he’s pretty safe.

Raven, on the other hand, put too much out there. When people found out he worked at Texas Roadhouse, they left negative reviews to get him fired. Who did that really help?
