Disco Elysium - Insane Drunken Cop Simulator RPG GotY 2019

I hate the pale lore. It's something that if removed from the game, wouldn't effect anything any. The fact that it is ingame adds to a hopelessness to everything since the pale is eventually going to consume everything.

Not to mention it's a poorly used allegory for Global warming. Let's pretend that global warming wasn't a tool that rich and powerful people were using to make money and to control people. All that does is warms up the world and for some reason only effects 3rd world countries by raising the temperature a few degrees. The pale destroys peoples' minds and can be visibly seen.

The Pale is pretty important to the story because it can represent so many things.

From the concentrated hopes and dreams of Revachol being concentrated into a single point that is an existential threat to the ruling order and world itself to it just being the nostalgia in liquor bottles. It is the ghosts of the graveyard of the revolution and the collective will places as though they were people. It is basically concentrated emotions and spirituality.

It simultaneously makes the game more nihilistic (laymen sense) and makes you feel as though anything is possible. The Pale makes DE alot more meaningful.

As for the narrator, the game was better off without his lines being read. It takes him an eternity to say anything. The letsplayers sure have an extraordinary patience to let him finish.
The letsplayers must have been ecstatic when the full voiceover was added. I remember so much bitching by streamers and such, about the game being very hard to stream: either you read everything out loud and fucking kill your vocal chords, or you don't read it and it becomes stream poison because viewers then can't minimize it and just listen.

With the full voiceover, all they need is to read Harry's lines and maybe the unvoiced text from the bubbles.

Personally I like the narration. But the guy should have put more effort into differentiating the different skills' voices. Everyone sounds the same, and it can get confusing. Plus, things like Authority or Half-Light shouldn't speak the same way as Empathy or Composure. I get that it's unreasonable to ask for one VA per skill (plus the neutral narrator), but if the one guy can't pull off the differentiation, at least get a different VA for each skill color. Easier for 4 people to read things in 6 different styles than 1 guy doing the 24. Maybe with some effects to enhance and further differentiate them.

I mean, they got different guys for Limbic System and Ancient Reptile Brain, so why not?

In fact, I'm surprised no one has made a mod to that very effect. I've seen amateur VAs doing little demos of it on YouTube. Someone should go all the way.

This one is tangentially related, but it's very funny.

So, a prominent Russian cosplayer of Disco Elysium, Dima Petcos dropped a tranny truth bomb with a confederate flag in the background of all the things, and disco redditors didn't like it one bit

Based.

But what the fuck does that Jamrock Hobo response mean? Is it about the time Harry calls himself Icebreaker?

Edit: I think I've answered myself. He's calling the cosplayer a fascist.

He's calling the cosplayer a fascist.
By the standards of the average westoid troon, practically everyone west of Vistula except for the faggiest liberals imaginable are of the fashy kind. Even the ones waving the Soviet flag because the average old Vatnik finds trannydom a western bourgeois decadence imposed by the ever-vile Anglo-Saksii.

Yes but specifically, Icebreaker is the achievement you get when you complete the Fascist path in the game.

By the massive seething of the fandom in general (it has blown over more platforms), you've judged it correctly, at least the part that makes any content.
Good thing it's here, all I learned from all the whining was, that one russophile guy (who happens to be from Russia) made a wrongthink that was so horrifying to the point calling out his name and what exactly he said was out of question.

I hate the fandom in general I would throw most of it into incinerator, that bad it is. Why not troon out an abused junkie kid from an incomplete family, who is/was also manipulated by his even more traumatized and fucked up gf (or whatever she is), nothing wrong with that, right.

I used to like the artist who made the thread, now she can jump into the incinerator too. https://www.reddit.com/r/DiscoElysi...ck_some_positivity_into_this_fandom/?sort=new

I finally got some time to play this game yesterday after having wanted to for a while. The fuck, man? This game is not that great.

You can tell there is effort and good production and direction. The result is just weird though. It isn't funny and feels like it is trying way too hard to convince me that books were read and important subjects studied to bring you this product. The level of competence doesn't reconcile with the degree of high school opinions expressed in the final result. And the immersion breaking... near the very beginning when I was talking to that crackhead kid throwing rocks, when he mentioned Night City I nearly alt F4'd my way out of the game. I hate out of place references like that, especially to other video games. They put all this thought into immersion and then throw a Cyberpunk reference in there for the cutters and the autists.

The systems in place are great and I love the visuals and the overall setting. But the writing is just mediocre slop and at some point the overall direction of the game went out of control because this is all just a huge mess of ideas and narration. Also I love games that offer me narration, but sadly I found myself skipping through a lot of it after a while because they took way too long to read most of it.

It's no The Longest Journey and it's certainly no Ward No. 6.

Cyberpunk came out after Disco Elysium.

Because it was mismanaged and stuck in development hell for a decade. You gotta do better than that, Slap.

and Night City in Cyberpunk gets its name from a popular cyber punk book and later tabletop game from the 1980s. If anything, the leftists who made the game are referencing that.
