He is a full-blown addict & alcoholic. He can't stream without the crutch of drugs or alcohol. But streaming on them, even though he can currently get drunk or high without consequences, would put him in legal danger on the plea deal and in sentencing.

If he was successful financially, it certainly wasn't from anything in court. It was obvious moving to streaming was a gigantic windfall. Even a successful small town lawyer is often going to be making in the low six figures or less, at least if they practice locally. Maybe the local Big Guy is going to be small town rich.
