Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Well the in-person GO Tour: Unova event wasn't a complete disaster, I actually enjoyed it.
I spent my Friday at the Rose Bowl since that's the day my friend selected when they bought my ticket.

First off, some technical stuff.
  • The clear bag policy wasn't as invasive as I thought, the clear backpack I borrowed from a friend turned out to be good enough.
  • The one portable charger per person rule was pretty fair, my 30,000 mAh charger was able to go through.
  • A bag check was provided at the event if people brought stuff that wasn't "kosher" enough for the clear bag policy or people brought more than one portable charger. In addition to that, said bag check also allowed you to access your checked bags to swap stuff out.
  • Food was provided by both the Rose Bowl and food trucks brought in for the event. Everything was very expensive.
The actual event was pretty fun, there were four areas where specific Pokémon spawned and raids consisted of Black/White Kyurem, Reshiram, and Zekrom. Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus were available via a set of Timed Research challenges that requires you to spin certain Poké Stops. The Shiny rate was oddly ass compared to stories I've heard about past in-person GO Tours, I got around 11 regular Shinies and one Shiny Legendary.
I also Citywide Experience add-ons in my ticket so I spent Saturday and Sunday in Santa Monica since it's a big PoGO hotspot.

The citywide event is kind of what I expect the Global event to be like to a certain extent. Pokémon from all four of the in-person event’s environments barring Deerling and Druddigon spawn at once and raids consist of Black/White Kyurem, Reshiram, Zekrom, and Druddigon. There were also special “enigma” Poké Stops that yielded Research tasks that rewarded Pokémon with special backgrounds.
They’re more of a rarity as the hits are worth less than their English counterparts. These people are only in it for the money so knowing that, they tend to avoid them and stick to the ones people are willing to camp out for and you can get at big box stores like target and Walmart.

Personally I don’t like these machines because they’re pretty much just a waste of space and electricity and are constantly sold out. I think most people who aren’t into pokemon also see them and think of them the same way as claw machines with plushes or fidget toys and trinkets in them. They really should start cutting back on them because they really don’t do anything but suck up electricity and stay empty until the vendor’s employee shows up to restock it again and repeat the cycle. That’s the best case scenario, at worst they also can draw people willing to act out and commit crimes over these damn things.
Either that or start putting in limits to amount of products one can purchase and actually track ‘em from machine to machine.

So my mom took my sister's daughter to McDonalds today and got something Pokemon related in the happy meal. Asked me what it was because she didn't have a clue. Apparently they're giving out Pokemon cards to kids in a pack that also includes a poster with a QR code and stickers to stick on the poster (stickers are body parts of pokemon you have to put in the correct place)

The cards come in a pack with 4 cards in each pack, and they're kinda bullshit. The ones in this pack my mom got are...
  • Hologram/Foil Pikachu that gives you free electric energy for it's 50 point attack
  • A Rayquaza that's a colorless type with a 30 point attack requiring 2 energy that prevents retreating. It has a 120 attack for one more energy where you have to discard all energy after use.
  • A Dragapult where one of it's attacks requires you killing off your Dreepy to give 100 points of damage to the opponent (can't stack against the same pokemon, no weakness/resistance)
But the worst is a Quagsire with the dumbest attack I've ever seen
>if you have exactly 2, 4, or 6 prize cards, this attack does nothing
It's a 180 attack, by the way.
The cards being crap is kind of the point, they’re meant to be something nice for the kids.

That said there is a card in the set (specifically the holo Roaring Moon) that does see some play in tournaments.

People aren't happy knowing there are daily caps when you try to build your tour pass. Niantic said the cap's gone this coming weekend, so you got 2 days to get to level 100 (good luck with that if you got a life, and you don't have a big Pokemon group). I'm not even killing myself to hit 100, and I'm not paying $14 if Victni isn't guaranteed to have good ivs. My sister caught a 99% Shundo Virizion while I got a regular hundo Terrakion (I'm super happy with that). Gonna aim for a decent Reshiram and maybe some Therian Landorus for the candies.

Back in my day, those places gave us spinning tops. And water squirters. And keychains.
Some of them were big chunks of plastic, heavy and dense enough to brain a kid with.

They sure don't make 'em like they used to.

Would it be autistic of me to ask what Pokémon toys the people in this thread like?

I am starting to wonder if all rebursts ate 5th gen, not a single old pokemon yet
That reminds me. I will defend the gen 5 main games for only having Unova Pokemon until the postgame til the day I die, but when it comes to spinoffs I have to agree it's too much.

At least in the main games you can transfer Pokemon if you really want them, but in the anime, this manga, and spinoffs like Gates to Infinity or PokePark 2 you'll hardly see something other than gen 5 mons. And it's usually the same ones too, you'll always see the Golurk, Krookodile, Zoroark or Hydreigon lines, but good luck finding a Zebstrika, Reuniclus or Escavalier. Gen 4 spinoffs were much more balanced when it came to Pokemon selection.

Does my fully-functioning Pokewalker count? :smug:

IT IS TIME AGAIN FOR ME TO PRAISE POKEMON CONQUEST APROPOT OF NOTHING

Conquest is the only Gen 5 spin-off I remember that didn't do this. It still had Gen 5 as a big focus, and I struggle to imagine that the Unovan starters or the monkeys would have been included had this game come out in any other generation, but the PC and a lot of the Warlords have bonds with non-Unovan Pokémon and the new guys shared their screentime pretty equally with the old.

If you scroll down that list, you'll seriously find a 50/50ish split. Some very odd choices from gen 5 too. Beartic and Zebstrika, Gothitelle and Cinccino-- stuff you'd be hard pressed to find in any new spin-off today. I think it's probably the best example of putting a hugee emphasis on new mon without ignoring the old in gen 5's entire roster. It's got a lot of the more obscure gen 5 mon that would appeal to various tastes (alongside the usual starters, monkeys, legendaries fare) thrown in with well-loved classics like Tyranitar, Infernape, and Alakazam.

All this probably has to do with the fact that Conquest came out ridiculously late into the generation, being released when the DS and generation 5 were both on their deathbed in 2012, so they had time to learn from the mistakes of earlier spin-offs... but I'm still bringing it up because it's a great example.

Also go play Conquest. It's really fun and nobody ever talks about it.

lol Go glitched and all of the legendary raid stuff for the Univa tickets is unlocked
There is a bug where people who bought the 5 dollar raid pass couldn't actually get any rewards from it, so Niantic just auto-completed all the challenges for everyone. Why this included the free pass, i have no idea. But hey, free legendaries.

You get five free genesects, so it's a win/win.
My Verizion was perfect, too, so I'm happy.

I've never got around to playing Conquest but I've heard good things about it, I even heard that Zekrom (my favorite) gets some time in the spotlight, so it's certainly on the to-play list.

Another gen 5 spinoff that wasn't just Unova mons was Rumble Blast, but it removed shinies and the Rumble series has always been a grindy mess. You can't upgrade your Pokemon's power or special traits, so if you want more powerful Pokemon you have to catch new ones, and that's a luck-based grindfest.

Go play it! Go play it now now now! And yes, Zekrom gets some spotlight but mostly as a side thing, as one of Nobunaga's perfect links. It's generally overshadowed by both Nobunaga's Hydreigon and especially his shiny Rayquaza. At least you don't need a dead Wifi event to unlock it like Reshiram does, though...

I actually played this one a lot on release and I have to say that it might be my favorite in the series. Low bar given the quality of the Rumble series, but I don't mind the lack of shinies in favor of what Blast brought to the table. I really enjoyed the multiplayer and the soundtrack is great. I still wouldn't really recommend it, mostly because I wouldn't recommend any Rumble game for the same reasons you gave, but you can do much, much worse if you're adamant about playing at least one.

Seconded. It's also weirdly one of the only Pokemon games to have an active modding scene. While there have been a few attempts at making maingame style romhacks (and some of them have some pretty decent sprite and pixel art) there are actually multiple fully-fledged reworks of Conquest that do things such as adding in all Pokemon up to Gen 9 (for those who actually care about Pokemon post-Gen 5) or heavily rebalancing Conquest to encourage more competitive (and QoL) gameplay. They've even found ways to add new maps to the game.

The biggest downside is that you may have to interact with discord and most of the people involved seem to be younger zoomers who take their cues from the Tumblr side of the old Conquest fandom.

For those looking into playing it, also check out the Gamefaqs. There were some wi-fi events that are obviously discontinued but can still be accessed through codes, which can also be used to unlock ingame Pokemon event spawns.

lmao same
It did the same for that earlier thing where you had to pick Candela or Arlo. I hadn't bothered to finish it because I'd have to find Arlo to fight him and I didn't give enough of a fuck, but then it just came back with everything already completed... nice fucking game niantic

After doing some testing, I can confirm that despite what the resources say, Fire Red Remixed(FRR) romhack does NOT have Physical/Special split as advertised. From Counter/Mirror Coat and Reflect/Light Screen being effected by move type rather than individual moves to curiosities like Intimidate not lowering attack power of Bite, I had my doubts for a long time. I finally evolved my Magikarp and Gyarados confirmed my findings: Double Edge does way more damage than Waterfall, both physical moves, to a Fire type. This does throw a wrench in a few of my sets, for example I just now bred a Rhyhorn with Crunch, the move being absolutely useless now on something with so little SpAtk. The only positive here is that I have a whole bunch of eggs ready in the daycare to bring over to games which do have Physical/Special split.

Still, not really as big of a deal as I thought it would be. I am still planning to play a big QoL romhack with everything you would expect in FRLG, and this ain't it. The main attraction is catching all the exotic Pokemon in the world, and this is what I am treating this romhack as: One giant Safari Zone. Still, P/S split would have been nice. BTW I can also confirm that Legendary encounters work exactly as I thought they would: Static encounters are no longer there, but the Legendary Pokemon itself has a small chance of appearing in random encounters, infinitely. Take Seafoam Islands for example, Articuno is no longer present at the bottom of the cave like it would normally be, but I can encounter it on the first floor as a random encounter or anywhere else, leading the dungeon to be somewhat of an item scavenger hunt unless you want to find your way to the other side to travel to Cinnabar. I assume other dungeons will be like this as well.

Surfing really opens up the game, as many of the secret Legendary encounters from other games are hidden behind a body of water. Other than going Legendary Bird hunting I can now go Golem hunting as well. Biggest problem is money actually, I am buying well too many PokeBalls than the original game intended and that is also cutting into my healing item budget. The only bright side here is that now that I know how the battle mechanics work, I can min/max how much power each individual Pokemon is doing.
Presents in an hour
Prepare for boredom :semperfidelis:
Is there anything even to look forward to? I don't count ZA since I know they will fuck it up in typical Gamefreak fashion.

lol no
hence the "boredom" bit
I'm expecting Z-A starters and some really shitty gameplay, but we all know that's only gonna show up after 30+ minutes of shilling mobile slop
I really cannot get over how the logo looks like someone getting kicked in the crotch. I swear i'm not going crazy, it's like one of those 50s advertisement people. Hold on, i'm going to illustrate it
