Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

Unloading vans from an adjacent street is a bad idea, aside from efficiency, another reason why vans park right outside is security. The deliveryman's eyes are off the van for only a few seconds while he brings the goods inside and he is in a populated space. Having him walk around the block is not only inefficient but creates significantly bigger windows of opportunity for criminals to take advantage.

Also how reckless is OP if people are frequently bitching about his biking.

They should use cargo bikes instead:

I'd pay good money to see these people trying to shift 400 pounds with a pallet truck on uneven city streets. Never mind the distance from the distribution hub, just move it down some cobblestone street or up any incline, however slight.

It's apparent that these people have never worked with their hands.

Yes unless they hire a second guy to watch the stock but then the prices of everything will rise due to having a useless second person for a one man job.

to convert horse trails into mixed use ones
Not even that. A lot of mixed use trails can include horses but they can't be paved. This isn't necessarily for the horses a lot of the times, it's not optimal to ride on asphalt but it's done with road riding and police horses all the time...the problem is that other trail users don't like paved trails being shat on. It's understandable. But there are just so few trails open to horses already compared to not. Mixed use trails primarily for ATVs, mules, and bikes, and off road vehicles that also allow horses are more tenable and usable compared to trails that the bike fags want for themselves--think on that!

So much of our world is paved already, why would these people want trails to be just more sidewalks anyway. I hate it. Paved trails sort of interrupt the natural beauty IMO.

They way they did it locally?

The middle 1/3 of the trail is paved for cyclists/hikers, while there's a 1/3 easement off to either side that's kept grass so the horses have something soft to walk in and where manure won't be a problem. You can walk out there if you want too, just mind your step.

Bikes are told to stick to the asphalt. Horses are told to stick to the grass.\

Motorized vehicles of any kind are prohibited.

Its worked fine as far as I can tell.

Being that a lot of trails are owned by private conservancies and not the public makes it easy to dismiss any demands of the crazies and Karens that X or Y be eliminated since they can't sic busybody politicians or city council members on those who say no.

They seem to know they're in a mutually-assured-destruction situation with everyone. Sue? And you destroy the conservancies who don't have the cash to engage in lawfare and will just close up shop (and the trailheads) since they are, technically, someone else's land.

According to this guy a bunch of the just stop oil guys or whatever they’re called drilled a bunch of holes into suv wheels in a dealership in the uk. But it turns out they were all electric vehicles lmao.
Even if they hadn't been? Why are these people so dumb as to not understand that the dealership will just get fresh wheels and tires from the factory, install them, and sell the cars anyway? With the vandalism being covered by insurance? They'll lose nothing. What did you hope to accomplish that you believe you have actually accomplished by this petty act?

This chart was shared on FuckCars.

I like how the chart accidentally gives away that the OP just wants to be able to legally sit around and get pissed on booze out in public (which is illegal in the US, and generally one of the few reason someone gets arrested/fined for "loitering"). OP also mentions "drunk driving" as a reason why the US & cars suck.

The funniest is, someone points out that the "European" example is actually in America (Brooklyn).

The Poor Young American night out still sounds like a better time. For one, you can split if you wanna do something else that night, while the Euro has to preplan around transport and what's nearby.

I did a walking trip moving two 20ish kilogram (44 lb) suitcases on a 45 minute walk. That was pretty rough - can't imagine doing that heavy of a pallet truck on streets. Even if they're nice streets.

Notice the unusually light average skin pigmentation in this hypothetical image where everyone is getting along and public transit is pleasant and reliable.

It’s like these faggots just constantly need direction from someone else on what to do. Gotta take the scheduled train to the designated activity zone for judgment-free fun merriment time. No friends randomly calling you at 10 PM asking if you want to go out and see their buddy’s band play in the basement of some dive bar, or taking a bucket of defective golf balls out to the high school football field and whacking them into the treeline with a baseball bat on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

Poor Young American fun is the best. Sometimes I miss it.

This is just dumb fantasy. Europe is more than the big sexy cities. We have small boring towns and rural areas too. Outside of the very city center public transportation isn't always available, let alone practical. We have cars because cars make life easier, better and more fun. We hang out at McDonald's or a local equivalent alot because it's winter, can't come up anything better or you're hungry. Also adults are suspicious of youth groups because we have experienced plenty of their stupidity.

/r/fuckcars proving once again thy are full of alcoholics.

Not just alcoholics but complete and total losers who are also out of touch.

First off, in America, even in the lowest-tier group of people, someone has a car. You'd have to basically go out of your way to find someone who doesn't. There's parks everywhere, you can play beach volleyball, Frisbee, and all that...most of those have prohibitions on glass bottles, and even if you demanded drinking you can always hang out in someone's apartment (it turns out that many apartments actually have a space where the bedroom isn't part of the living room) and drink beer, and play cards/board games.

While I'm not European, getting strung out in the park may not necessarily be illegal but is probably frowned upon...and besides, if you're advocating that everyone rides the train/really wants trains but can't, then why are YOU living on the fringe of society? Plus, after dark, taxis reign supreme, there is NO city with reliable, consistent public transit after 9 pm. Most lines run every 30 minutes (like Berlin) if at all.

A delivery driver comments and tells them that parking in bike lanes is necessary in big cities. The response is "find a new job":

Apparently Pittsburg, the city where this loser lives, is installing license plate readers to automatically ticket anyone who dares to use a bike lane as a loading zone:

The best argument in favor of Dead Internet Theory is the conceit that there are a large number of real actual not-fed human beings that not only support congestion pricing, but will sign petitions and go to actual live protests in favor of it.

I just find it funny that the same people who will bitch about poor people having inequitable access healthcare, etc. are willing to push a solution that discriminates against the middle class and benefits the wealthy. Rich people aren't going to be at all inconvenienced by congestion pricing and will spend more on a single meal than they will on congestion pricing for an entire year. That they never seem to realize this shows how lacking in critical thinking they are. I sometimes wonder if it's really just astroturfing by the wealthy so they don't have to deal with traffic.

Meanwhile, I don't mind congestion pricing in theory, but that just fits into my general stance on economics. When there's any kind of limited resource, the best way to allocate it is to establish a market for it. I like market-based solutions to problems, including cities that increase meter prices as parking spots become more scarce to ensure people don't park for longer than they really need to. Ideally any kind of congestion pricing would adjust costs based on the congestion to load balance. I don't mind if things aren't fair to poor people or rich people can get more of something.

I do accept that congestion pricing is the sort of thing that will never be popular, even if you could prove that it did work. For example, suppose you timed delivery drivers and found that with the congestion fee they could complete deliveries 10% faster due to reduced traffic. That ultimately means they can complete more deliveries in a day and as long as the cost of their their labor for the time saved is more expensive than the fee, it's economically beneficial. Even knowing that the driver will still be pissed off every time he has to pay the fee even if he's making more money because he can handle more deliveries.

I'd prefer not to live in a city where this is necessary in the first place though. There's no good reason to stack people on top of each other to such an extent that you need to resort to these types of solutions. It's truly amazing how many problems cease to exist when you don't live in a bughive.
