UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I don't think anyone wants to start a race war,but there's one going on.we didn't start it, it began with previous generations being naive retards, but here we are and it's not going anywhere.

The sooner we deal with them and send them packing the better off we'll be.

Yes, white people are violent too. And we commit crime. But non whites are wreaking havoc and destruction against the native peoples of this country, as well as themselves. And I don't care about tarqueshaw'n being knocked by detraYVius in London. No great loss. But the sheer cost of black on black violence is sky high and we're told, ad nauseum we've a deficit worth billions.

They are destroying, us, each other and the country.

I don't wish to start a race war, but I don't give a shit if a man is a Nig. The blackest of Blacks, if born near me, is my countryman and my brother. We deal with the same shit.
Just because someone is a Darky doesn't mean he lives a separate life with separate issues.

Religious nutters who hate my life? Yeah fuck 'em. Different issue.

I'm a gen X. A late one. I lived in a squat type place, saved up a shitload AND had a bit of family help.
I bought a nice little home way outside of the city.
Older friends, the bigger boys, simply got a mortgage for a semi-detached in Zone2 London. It was easier for them.

It's harder and harder for younger friends to get a starter home anywhere close to a city with jobs. That is how it is. I slummed it for a while, but what will they do? My little home has doubled in value, so what for a new starter?

Shit is fucked. I might be a cunt, but I'm not racist. Blackies aren't the problem.
(But they are nogalogs. Every single one of 'em. Sorry.)
There's a black man in my family because my cousin married them. He's a genuine hard worker and believes that immigrants should be working hard and be held up to the same standards as ordinary british folks.

Do I consider him a countryman? No. A countryman to me is someone who is from this country and not some stupid "well ackshually his grandad was from pakistan but he was born in Birmingham so he's british" like no fuck you he's not fucking british and not from this country as far as I'm concerned. This British by soil shit needs to fucking stop, like I get you want to be nice because you've seen some genuinely good hardworking blackies in this country but come on man, we are not good people but when you realize the rate of crimes that these immigrants commit while being such a low percentage of the population compared to the natives you have to wonder if it's a fucking race issue especially considering almost every fucking euro country that has done the same shit we have is suffering the same fucking problems.

A british man is a british man born in britain or not. A nigerian man and his offspring can never be british and should never be considered such.

So basically, I couldn't give two tits if you're hard working or not. If you're not british then get the fuck out of this country. I'm sick of seeing scum everywhere pretending they can civilize the third world. Some might rise to the occasion but most won't and we should not be taking such a stupid risk that has done nothing but cause an untold amount of suffering to this country and its people.

Does this mean I'm racist now?

So what does people think Starmers response is going to be. In response to Zelensky being practically kicked out of the White House? Starmer had been thinking himself a big man. Going round thinking he could pulling weight about this war with Macron et al. And now Zelensky has killed any negotiating dead. Trump will not play nice now.

Edit:
lmao of course

If I call someone a retard at work- would the manager have fair excuse to dismiss me?

I have no mental or physical disabilities
I have publicly hollered "SHUT THE FUCK YOU STUPID FUCKING RETARD SPAZ FUCK" but suffered no consequences because it was "in the moment" kinda stuff (and I was also right and had everyone agreeing with me too that probably helped), you may however be a bit fucked because it is technically verbal abuse though you may be able to leverage your interpersonal relationship skills to "I'm soooo soooowry" your way out, if they wanna fuck you however I'm afraid you are fucked.

Blackies aren't the problem.
We all know a few who are absolutely top people. That’s not really the point. The point is a MASSIVE influx of non natives changes anywhere. It’s not good no matter who it is. It’s not even really about skin colour, it’s about too many people in too short a time. The third world is the third world because it is full of third worlders. It’s not climate or colonialism or any of the Jared diamond bollocks, its people. Switzerland is a neat, completely anal slightly weird but functional country because it is full of Swiss people. Japan is neat and orderly and weird in very specific ways because it is full of Japanese people. The DRC is a hellscape of war, rape and cannibalism because it is full of Congolese. Pakistan is an inbred theocratic basket case because it’s full of inbred Pakistanis.
And Britain ruled the world and had an emptier and started the Industrial Revolution because we were full of Brits.
Now we have half the third world living here and we are turning into the third world. It’s not about a few nice black people.
There was a lady on one of the threads about Ebola who was a nurse and who used trash bags and masks to protect t herself to care for her family members, rinsing herself down with bleach diluted and burning the trash bags when all other medical staff fled. Saved her family. Absolutely top lady. Is she the norm? No she is not, or the Congo would be wakanda.
Not many of us are racist in the old definition, which was disliking anyone without meeting them purely on race even if they were great. Most of us take people as we find them. But the country cannot take millions and millions of not-British people and remain British. We have had the equivalent of the entire population of a country like Norway in terms of numbers and even if every one had been Norwegian I think we’d be pissed off, but for them to be cultures that cannot relate, have opposing values and who hate us, well that’s going to kill us. We are not going to be British any more.
If I call someone a retard at work- would the manager have fair excuse to dismiss me?

I have no mental or physical disabilities
He probably would, which is rough because there’s a lot of retardation around and you want to say it as you see it sometimes

Some Labor guy ranting about his country.
Listen to that first sentence: “…iconic attractions”. Attractions, what a strange word to describe home. It makes England sound like Disneyland. For many living here, that is what England is: a hodgepodge of unoffensive ‘quirks’, and silly traits, marketable to the tourists. The late Queen, I suppose would be Walt Disney, James Bond and Harry Potter would share Mickey’s throne, and Big Ben can be Cinderella’s castle. If my childhood assemblies are anything to go by, the film Up provides as much moral insight to people as The Book of Common Prayer once did.

His video states nothing beyond superficialities. Bad food, bad teeth, bad accents. All very true, but what else? You’ve touched on appearances but how about we scratch through to reality?

Certain people live in a world that is essentially a flat image. Everything around them is slightly foreign, none of it excites their mind beyond confusion, and it all lacks colour. The exteriors of churches emit a cold glare. Monuments to the dead, with their archaic and formal names, leave the memory void. They live in a mystery, as though the whole country was Stonehenge. All of it imposes just by presence alone.

Thankfully, they have London, which the man in the video talks an awful lot about. Like most cities, it is great because it is full of noise. Whenever I visit, there is always something to do: some event going on, some gallery to look in on, some film to sit down and watch, or some book for me to buy and eventually read. And everyone is in such a rush- it makes me think I have missed a meeting that no one made me aware of. It is a reactive existence. Not once do you need to use your own volition; the city takes you in its excitement. There is no time to contemplate, no time for worry.

Conversely, he talks of the countryside. Another wonderful thing, everyone agrees. Those great documents of truth, polls, tells us the public (what is the public? How does one join?) thinks it is the greatest thing we have. I suppose that is why we are so willingly to sell so much of it, so everyone from the world can enjoy its pleasures. Land has become our greatest export.

It can be hard to love cultivated nature. As a child, my parents always told me I was lucky to be raised in the countryside. The BBC had many documentaries telling me to go outside, for health reasons and some vague notions of well-being.

Unfortunately, I was pernickety when it came to reasons and motives. People would tell me to love the countryside and they would repeat mantras, mottos, and memes, some you hear in the video, but I couldn’t abide them. I had heard those sayings before, and I disliked cliché. None of it rang true to me.

However, I was also a self-aware child, and knew how stupid I often was, so I began walking the countryside. For miles, I tried to work out why, or if, I loved the countryside. I was desperate. I wanted to appreciate it truly. When I returned home, I read Emerson and Thoreau, and I said to myself ‘that’s all well and good, but I don’t feel it’. I knew there was something missing.

I felt like this for a while. It wasn’t until… well, I am not going to get into it, but eventually I saw the beauty of nature. I had wonder. Years later, when I see a sunrise before work, or when I look at the stars in the sky at night, I do feel something. There is a pleasure, in its grandeur, in its silence.

It is me though. That nature is beautiful is because there’s a man to think it is so. That is our relationship with the world around us. We give the world meaning. So, I ask, how many people sincerely like the countryside? How many people, on the other hand, repeat the mottos and say they like it just because it is the ‘right way’ to think? Would they prefer to be near a Costa and where all the action is? Do they ever think why?

People bemoan a ‘loneliness epidemic’, but I disagree. We are as lonely as we have ever been. Consciousness presupposes isolation. Today we have more distractions to hide us from this fact. Before, we didn’t have a TV to make the day go by; we didn’t have the constant news flow to make the world, and by extension us, feel like we are forever moving; and we never listened to music unconsciously and turned it into a distracting rattle.

Why do people go on about loneliness then? Is it because people know what is going inside them? Are they afraid that in the silence they may the hear questions, and the doubts, and the fears, and the remorse that so much of the past has bothered itself with?

Loneliness is one outlook on man’s isolation. Solitude is another. The tedium seclusion brings is good for the soul. Depth can only be seen by looking within for a prolonged period. This is not instantly gratifying, but no fulfilling work was ever too exciting. Often, a great task is a slow chore. Excitement is primarily for young people, and can only be like wonder, a temporary stage in experience. Forever chasing that high where you forget yourself leaves a hole where something more should have been.

One issue I have with philosophy is when a thinker suggests a general rule. For example, Roger Scruton argues when ‘we’ see beauty, we seek to justify it, which leads us to spiritual and metaphysical considerations. Now, that might be what Sir Roger Scruton, FBA, FRSL, the Cambridge University educated, libretto writing philosopher feels when he hears the Liebestod, but does the average man feel that way? Perhaps he hears it and thinks Wagner is twaddle, or that it is nice, but nothing fancy; perhaps he accepts Scruton’s point but says ‘it is what it is' and does not think any further on why beauty is so wonderful and so unsettling. Scruton seems to forget his own education has played a great deal in his conclusions- conclusions that I think are mostly right.

There is a need to furnish someone’s mind, to at least put some idea in them that life has more complexity than initially perceived. It is lamentable that we have entered a world that has become for so many just a surface experience. It is liveable, sure, but it is not what I would describe as worthwhile, especially if we only live once.

To this end, I will quote Dickens’ Hard Times, the only book on pedagogy worth reading:

“Utilitarian economists, skeletons of schoolmasters, Commissioners of Fact, genteel and used-up infidels, gabblers of many little dog’s-eared creeds, the poor you will have always with you. Cultivate in them, while there is yet time, the utmost graces of the fancies and affections, to adorn their lives so much in need of ornament; or, in the day of your triumph, when romance is utterly driven out of their souls, and they and a bare existence stand face to face, Reality will take a wolfish turn, and make an end of you."

As other have alluded to, you don't need to actually hold the protected characteristic to be protected by the Equality Act. There are provisions for discrimination based on the presumption someone has one, or just merely someone else feels it to be discriminatory against a protected characteristic.

This is part of why white liberals are allowed to be offended on behalf of someone else.

I would say to myself: "Man, this Starmer guy is up to no good. I hate this, I can't take any more of this. I don't know what I'm gonna do… What am I gonna do? I'm Starmer's top guy. What am I gonna do? Kier Starmer chose me to lead the revolution!"

I use a combination of lies, manipulation, cheating, stealing, gaslighting, bullying, insulting and flexing to make sure everyone in my office stays under my thumb where I want them.

"Woah! Kier Starmer needs me? Okay, I'll do it. I'm going to bat for you, Starmer! I got your back, Starmer!"

The real question is why ? Why is it sooooo much harder ? If you think it isn't down to supply and demand ( and I'll drop you a hint here, the supply of houses has been pretty static for decades ) then what is it ? The fact that the supply is so inelastic means any change in demand has a massive impact on the price ( it's only going upwards ). This seems to be the basic fact that so many don't grasp. The fact that even if the morons in power are proclaiming their desire to build an infeasible number more houses, none of them will have the infrastructure to support them and so will be inhabitable shit shoeboxes.
This explains it, but only read up to "the current uk housing market" - the rest is outdated

I think every generation think they had it harder than the one before. Even if it is harder now, people are getting what they voted for, I'm afraid. If you want to get on the property ladder and are young, don't vote for mass uncontrolled immigration, don't vote for a larger state and higher taxes ( you need to be able to save your earnings, not be forced to pay them to the government to waste ) and do vote for a government that will keep inflation and interest rates under control ( meaning house prices will remain under control, ceteris paribus ). Vote for a government that helps the private sector create the wealth ( by profits and jobs ) not one that thinks the public sector is a wealth creator.

People that don't work and don't contribute ARE the problem. People that want to piss all over the tent from the inside like Lightskin the Youtuber ARE the problem. People that want to impose non English values on us ARE the problem.
That's nice to know because I'm actually a retard so I think the law protects me.
I know you're a retard ( I give you a dumb sticker every time you post ). But you're our retard. So keep posting. It's entertaining.
Also, how many written warnings have you had ? Surely calling someone a tard once isn't grounds for instant dismissal ? Also, what was the context / did you say it aggressively or in a more passive "don't be such a tard" manner ?

Vote for a government that helps the private sector create the wealth ( by profits and jobs ) not one that thinks the public sector is a wealth creator.
I think this is an issue that gets completely underplayed when talking about immigration and wealth. We don't make anything, most of our jobs are makework bullshit, or some form of weird finance. We have no elasticity in terms of people starting businesses. It's a massive pain in the arse; the government doesn't want you doing it, and you get slam fucked with taxes. Most of our on paper wealth seems to be from 60+ year olds buying houses; and increasing the value of their property portfolio, which isn't at all what we need. Bringing in infinity browns isn't a fix for that issue.

We have had - as a county - our sense of entrepreneurship stripped out. High streets are barren or used as money laundering operations, there's nothing being produced, nothing being moved, nothing being built. We are regressing in real terms, to a point where we are going to have real issues fulfilling basic supply chain needs. Which is really fucking annoying, because we also have some of the best materials science research and development in Europe. We have the technical know how, and the pedigree to produce high end, high tolerance materials. It's insane that we've kicked our manufacturing out at the knees and replaced it with bullshit.

So basically, I couldn't give two tits if you're hard working or not. If you're not british then get the fuck out of this country.
What a strange opinion. If they speak English, respect British values, and have loyalty to England, why would you want to send them elsewhere? That's already two and a half points they have over your politicians.
I'm actually a retard
We know.
