Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

@Cthulus Nutsack I'm very particular about what dogs I allow near my Dane. He's a big boy (and still growing), very strong, and he likes to play rough and dominate other dogs. I never allow Shit Bulls or bull mix dogs near my dog. If I see someone coming our way who has some kind of bull breed I firmly inform them to keep their dog away from my dog, but that hasn't happened much. And if one were to come near my dog who wasn't on a leash, that's what I have a 1911 for. I always carry, even at home and work.

Also, I love fancy rats. Early in my marriage we had rats. My favorite was a Dumbo Rat I named Hurley. He was a sweetheart and would just run back and forth on my shoulders and curl up around my neck when I'd be at my computer. Rats are the best small pet. Way better than hamsters or guinea pigs.

Great Danes are such sweet humble dogs. My uncle had one named Merlin. My boy was an Akita/Chow(looked like a big fluffy carnival prize)mix so I was always worried about his temperament around children possibly running up to him. The irony is he probably could have held his own against a pit.

I'm not sure I'd get another dog after my guy died of old age but I've thought about rats again. It just sucks that they only live 4 to 5 years.

My Dane loves kids. He's really great with my boys and very patient with any kids who come up to meet him. He's still technically in the puppy phase since he's not quite 15 months old yet and won't be considered an adult until he's 18 months old, so he still has that puppy rambunctiousness at home, but out in public he's very mellow. Unless he sees another dog. Then he starts barking and wanting to go over to rough house with the dog, because he wants to dominate other dogs when he plays. He's not mean, but it could be mistaken as meanness, so I'm always cautious with him around other dogs.

Edit: Meant to also say that I love the Dane personality. They're big, sweet, loving goofballs. They also adapt quite well to any kind of living, including apartment life. I've had two so far. One was half Dane and half Weimaraner, and the other is 7/8 Dane and 1/8 English Mastiff. They are among my most favorite breeds, along with Dachshunds.

Man, chows are beautiful. My neighbor had one as a kid. He was friendly enough to let us pet him, because we approached him calmly and quietly, but mom wouldn't let us do it often or for long. He was a look, but don't touch dog. I did like to look too. Beautiful animals.

A 19-year-old woman has died in a dog attack at a flat in Bristol, police say.
Two people have been arrested following the attack at about 19:00 GMT on Wednesday at the property in Cobhorn Drive, south Bristol.
Officers sedated and seized the dog, which will be assessed by experts. Initial reports suggested it may be an XL Bully, but police said it was too early to confirm the breed.
A man and woman both in their 20s are in custody after being arrested on suspicion of offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act, including being in possession of a prohibited breed of dog.

An absolute retard I know just got himself a shitbull, he has a baby son, and his gf is currently pregnant with a daughter. They also have a cat. They live in a small apartment, and the guy also has like 4 other young kids who live with his ex but come over sometimes.

This guy is such a broken pathetic fucker that he's almost 40 and still cannot be a functioning adult or hold a job for any amount of time, so he decided the cure is a service pitbull. The smartest most loving and therapeutic breed of course.

He found a website to make fake service animal badges and made one for the ugly fucker and has been showing this all around today:

Honestly if the dogs were in their own yard and the cat was an outdoor roamer that got into their yard, the dogs didn't really do anything wrong. The problem with pits is their exceptional hyperfixation on trying to kill, like when they're shaking from adrenaline ripping up a car to get at an animal or person hiding inside of it. Just having a prey drive isn't shocking or inherently bad, this is just something you have to anticipate if you let your cats roam outside.

Especially if there's two of them. Dogs tend to egg each other on. One might go for a fast kill if it doesn't want the other to share the "toy". A cat getting into a yard with two of any kind of dog is risking its' lives.

My dog was trained to ignore small moving creatures. Anybody can train their dogs to do the same if the owner isn't a lazy nigger or the breed isn't a worthless murdermutt. If a dogs first instinct is to go after and kill something smaller than an adult human that fucker will possibly do it to a small child. My mom had a Boxer that liked killing squirrels and any other small animal that it could catch(possums, raccoons whatever) Her excuse for not training it was it's normal for dogs to kill other animals but they are smart enough to tell a human from wildlife. First thing that dog did when it escaped was run to the neighbors yard while they were grilling and attacked a 3 year old. Dog was put down and she was fined. 15 years later she still thinks her and the dog are/were the real victims

We have three cats and I've never worried about either the Great Weimar or my Dane hurting them, let alone killing them. One of my cats is a Sphinx who is very dog-like in his personality and love of human affection. He teases my Dane to get him to chase him, then will jump up on a table or counter to be on the Dane's level so he can rub up on his face and play fight with him. The Dane will poke the Sphinx with his nose, snuggle his muzzle up on the cat, and will give him gentle little nips like he's trying to scratch and itch on the cat. Of course, I'm always close by and watching them closely just in case either of them gets too feisty with their playing (don't want the cat accidentally clawing the dog's eyes, or the 140lb dog forgetting he's a 140lb dog with the 10lb cat), but so far they have been great friends. It's kinda funny how gentle my Dane is with the cats, when with dogs he wants to be dominant and play hard. Though, with the few small dogs and puppies he has met since I've had him he's also been pretty gentle with them. Maybe he does realize he's a big, strong boy and tries to be careful with animals he knows are much smaller than he is?

I've actually never had problems with any of the dogs and cats I've owned. The only "killer" dogs I've had were the Dachshund I used to have, who was a much better mouse and rat killer than any cat I've ever had (he also got one of my mom's chickens once when my parents were dog sitting), and my female Schnauzer/Lab mix who killed one of my wife's bantam chickens once. Other than that I've never had a dog who killed another dog or cat. I do tend to go for breeds known for being good family dogs and not breeds who have a reputation for aggression or high prey drive. I have dogs for companionship, not for protection. That's what I have guns for.

I like dogs but they have a lot of instincts and behaviors that need to be trained out of them: jumping on people, excessively begging for food/taking it from tables and counters, barking at inappropriate times, humping things, going to the toilet in inappropriate places…. I could go on forever. It definitely takes work to have a well-mannered dog.

Even though it should be table stakes for dog ownership, especially for large breeds and especially in urban areas, I’d say at least 80% of dogs I see in my area are inadequately trained.

That said, I met a good boi today and it made my day. That’s what (recreational/pet) dogs should be like: bringing joy to their owners and everyone around.

Good on you for training your dog. Most people these days seem to not give a fuck at all. They want dogs to be treated like people and allowed in stores and restaurants but like… if a strange man jumped on me and pawed at me like I’ve had dogs do, I’d kick him in the balls so hard that his testicles would never descend again
