Cartoon Industry thread - Showcasing the Spergery of the Animation Industry

And you're both absolutely right about Joe Murray btw...
God what a fucking moron.

Don't forget how that Rocko movie a few years ago made one character a tranny.
Incoming cartoon autism... Rocko was my bread and butter.

What made Rocko so charming was that it was about the dangers, joys, and anxieties of living in the modern world as a fish out of water. Occasionally, it dipped into Murray's personal experience as an animator.

Well, the movie special had none of that. It was just crammed full of every hurr durr Rocko reference in the most random places without actually showcasing what made the show unique. It was visually ugly with inconsistent animation. On top of that, it was basically a retelling of an episode from the OG series "I Have No Son". However, instead of Ralph and his father smoothing things over about their difference in career path - with Ralph turning down an opportunity for a job at his dad's company Conglom-O to instead be an animator - the movie reveals Ralph to be trans.

The message I took away was: "It's fucking cartoon. It's over. Move on. Fuck you." I haven't watched it since.

The Invader Zim movie special came out around the same time. Say what you will about the changes made to the character designs and Jhonen Vasquez' own retarded, LA-brained opinions, it at least had a semblance of the soul of the original series. I watched it a few times when it came out, and would happily watch it again if I ever revisited the series. Rocko? Nah. Unwatchable dogshit.

Murray spat in the face of the show's fans to fellate LA tranny dick.

While that's unfortunate, it does sound like Murray doesn't like the current landscape of nostalgia dictating everything. Rocko had a good run and ended when it did for a reason, and yet some corporate asshats wanted to milk their older franchises instead of producing new IPs (he might've been unsuccessfully shopping around new IPs for years), and the fans blindly clapped for it. He shouldn't have taken out his frustrations on the fans, but I get it.

Honestly, I think KiwiFarms should make an animated series. Can anyone invite me to that DM Chat Group if it's still available?
In this person’s mind, “soulless return” is just another way of saying that it’s not “woke” enough to be treated as high art.

People really forget Lasseter was a victim of cancel culture before they realized that he was unfairly treated during that time.

"Soulless" is not the right word for Lasseter's work through Skydance. Luck is a very mediocre film that should've had more time to cook, and you can actually tell when it was Lasseter stepped in to try and save the movie, which clearly was having production issues due to Covid anyway. Think the other one's Spellbound, which was another movie produced during Covid and may have had to be reworked on from scratch. Haven't seen it, don't care to, but these were two movies that were already being worked on before Lasseter came into the picture. They're more like foster children than his actual babies.

So the YouTuber either lied or was misinformed

Reminds me of a Failu Idiot Weasel video where one of Failu's pals yell at the mic to some teammate "RETARD NOOB!!!". There we have it, Either Doug Tenapel or whoever the fucks his name and John K.; another to the list of derranged lunatics in older cartoons. At least it wasn't everyone back then. Now it is every single one of them.

Sometimes I wonder if it is nostalgia, but I can see your point. It's sad, really - people change, sometimes for the worst.

Resurrection of IPs is a very dangerous ground to thread. It's one of the reasons I admire Danny Antonucci (Ed, Edd 'n Eddy's creator) for not wanting to resurrect the series. And after all, why would you want to? The series is there, watch it as-is. There's no reason to make "contemporary episodes tailored for contemporary audiences".

Please explain. I'm excited to hear this (I hate LA).
Oh, it's nothing noteworthy. He just holds the opinions you'd expect from a showrunner in LA. Long gone are his days of being an angsty edgelord comic book artist, which is okay, I guess. Everyone's gotta grow up sometime.

Afaik, he's very normal. No drama.
