Cartoon Industry thread - Showcasing the Spergery of the Animation Industry

You only hate LA for BS reasons

Name the reasons and why you think they’re bullshit.

I’ve been to California, it’s a beautiful state as far as natural beauty is concerned. There’s a reason beyond just the climate that people flocked there.

But all that does is just make its terrible management all that more tragic.

why do those in the media ivory tower just suck at making political cartoons, it's always "theyre bad and evil i'm smart and good" or "here's me drawn beating them up"
This is what having an entire indusry full of oldfaggots and millennialcucks is btw.

Stop replying to the resident clown, he's harmless. Let him make his noise. His previous name was "This Is Hard To Do", and it's hard for him to be a productive member of society.

Low intelligence and people who should have been bullied harder/dealt with having been bullied to have learned their lesson and grown up.

That as well.

What made Rocko so charming was that it was about the dangers, joys, and anxieties of living in the modern world as a fish out of water. Occasionally, it dipped into Murray's personal experience as an animator.
Well said. You’ve hit the nail on the head what made the original show appealing, and why the Netflix special just didn’t work. I saw it when it had first came out and initially thought nothing of it after finishing it other than “hey, I like Rocko already, this wasn’t half-bad”.

It’s disappointing, time and again, that cartoonists like Murray and “Huggies” Waller just can’t help but show their ass as they get older thanks to social media. Like what the fuck are you even doing at this point?

I find it disturbing that you see so much Tumblr quality work getting a shot at the mainstream when before most kids shows strived to appeal to kids in excess. Makes me think cartoon shows are dead as a media.

That's actually the issue here, these people have a warped view on what they think should be shown to kids. They saw what made old shows so appealing but didn't understand why they were appealing, why they were so significant and what made them work. They forgot that the focus on the show and its characters is more important than trying to be the next quirky show for minors or autistic adults to hyperfixate over—but I doubt anyone will really hyperfixate on this. Then again, I would be surprised.

TADC knew what they were doing. HH/HB knew what they were doing. Darn it, even Lackadaisy knew what they were doing. I get it, it's a "new age" of animation, and something's gonna be different compared to how cartoons were done in the past. But honestly, these indie shows don't really hold up well. What legacy will these shows have other than "it's indie!!!" and that it's just that show you probably saw a million pins of on Pinterest?

TADC won't have a legacy and will only be known as that show that got turned into a content farm and is the modern day FNF.

HH/HB is a complete joke of a series and will only be remembered for being a joke of a series.

Lackadaisy well... that, I do not know. But it won't be something people outside the internet will be clamoring about in high praise.

Along with many other indie shows. They have no real impact outside of the internet. They're only made to appeal to the people of the internet, not outside of it. Maybe they'll be remembered, who knows? A show doesn't need to have a lasting legacy to prove it's greatness. But there's just something about these indie shows that just don't... hit for me. They have a certain style and demographic that really adds in a strong contrast compared to shows of the 2000s and 2010s that put good writing and character development over "certain demographic appeal", if that makes sense.

I remember reading a 4chan screencap once that stated the reason why media, not just cartoons, sucks nowadays is because people just aren't experiencing actual real life stuff happening to them. Thousands of years of human interactions and outdoor experience made for interesting and wild tales depending on who it happened to. Now everyone is more or less content with staying in doors and living the easy life if they can. Not to say it isn't possible to tell interesting stories as someone who didn't have to fight to survive in caveman/black plauge/World War/Great Depression days, but when you're someone like Saberspark or LS Mark where making YouTube slop and watching cartoons is your only reference for "experience" and "interesting stories", that's when you gotta do something like hunt an animal or get in a fist fight just to say you did something kinda interesting when retelling it.
Because that's what old cartoons were about, telling interesting, fun stories. Now it's self fellation over gender and social shit made to only appease manchildren and those behind it, because what else are these people gonna tell? That time someone called them a retard on Twitter for having a shit take?

I feel the "shift" towards appealing to the Internet over "general audiences" was definitely was a factor here. Albeit, during the days of Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Gravity Falls, you could argue those shows marked the beginning of being geared towards "the Internet", and that's what made them so popular.

A major thing that lies at the heart of all this imo is that there really aren't any "adults in the room" anymore. Like, none of the right-wing/conservative culture war people barely care about cartoons at all, and sometimes they try to fall back on the "animation is only for kids" manta. The same one YTers like Rebeltaxi were trying to fight against at their peak.

A major point I see brought up every now and then is that the people who made media for kids should have kids themselves. Otherwise, you have a bunch of childless people making stuff in an attempt to stroke their own egos. Tumblr's done a lot of things to """society""", but one of the big ones was making its generation averse to family, whether that's being a part of one, or wanting to start one.

Tumblr was ultimately a place where "outcasts" came together to congregate, and it just so happens that the people who came together on that site were a generation looking to make radical change on a societal level. These people hate their parents, and the generation they came from, because they've set it in their heads that those people are the "fun police", not wanting them to make their progressive, experimental, multi-artstyle, "stylized" works in an effort to change the stagnant (in their heads) animation world.

Agree completely.

So much animation is navel-gazing, self-referential crap right now. Even in the indie scene. I like watching random animated clips on YouTube, but it all has this same feeling.

Do you guys think there will ever be a shift in animation culture where creators with real-life experiences - those who are too busy living their lives right now to make content - emerge and bring fresh, raw storytelling back into the animation world? Or are we stuck in this cycle of insular, online-driven content indefinitely?

Ain't no way this "generation" is gonna last forever. Not with how many duds and bombs have been dropped over the past 7-8 years. Really, what ultimately needs to happen is for the industry to spread its branches and invite people with fresh ideas and experiences that they were inspired by. The nepotism generation loves to virtue signal about diversity, except they completely despise the idea of "diversity of thought", which is why so many animations end up the way they do.

Turns out that Jessiefag sheboon put out her Magicgirl anime slop full of niggers.
I want to go through and find out what magical girls shows she's plagiarized/ripped off, but I don't want to give her views.

EDIT: Almost five minutes in, and the one chick is clearly reading Sailor Moon. LAME.

I know I've seen this movement, I just can't get a face for the character, but I'm still thinking Sailor Moon especially since she poses as such at the end.

Nigga, do you want your pilot to be stuck in an eternal development hell? This clash of cynical milennial smugness you call humour with child-friendly aesthetics will guarantee to turn everyone off.

I've lurked around the author's Tumblr blog and, of course, she's one of those tards who likes to put lesbians in mahou shoujo, a genre that's all about friendship, platonic bonds between female characters and cool male love interests. Libfems who got raised on Sailor Moon and Utena are such soulless npcs, it's insane how they mock and twist what they claim to love.
