Trump stops funding Ukraine. Ukraine starts failing even harder and begs for more aid and boots in the ground from Europe.

Parts of Europe (including UK) agree, because Putin is a buwwy and heroes stand up for victims. Also Putin is trying to take over the world, we’ll be speaking Russian in ten years if we don’t blah blah.

Russia is now more directly at war with the rest of Europe. More white people dead. WW3 looms.

To Europe, Trump will be portrayed as a big nasty reckless meanie who defunded our + Ukraines defences, allowing Russian gains. Which “forced” Europe to fight harder to defend Ukraine. Which caused escalation of the war. Not that Europe kept pouring fuel on the fire of an unwinnable war.

Vassaldom exactly what it is. The USA isn’t paying its member states’ defence, it’s paying us to be their minions.

While we are somewhat protected under the wing of the mighty USA, the USA is unpopular in parts of the world and seen as a warmongering supervillain. NATO membership forces us to take part in or support the USA’s unpopular policies and actions. That puts a target on lesser NATO members’ backs that we wouldn’t otherwise have.

Basically NATO membership increases our need for defence.

So Trump would be wrong to pull the rug from under us by reducing funding, after we have already suffered for it.

NATO is toxic but it’s too late to just pull the band aid off. The band aid is fused with a lethal wound. It needs to be pulled off very carefully and gently while fixing the wound.
