This is just a hunch, but I believe Zelensky has to "appear strong" because his constituents are a bunch of gruff slavs who have lost everything actively fighting a war. A pretty large portion of those slavs have at least one swastika tattoo. If Zelensky showed up to the meeting and silently nodded his head to everything like a bitch, that would not go over well with his troops. He might be in a bad position where he needs to cozy up to the United States, but give off the impression he's not their bitch.

You need boats to be able to power project. You need tanks for combined arms warfare on the ground or else anything heavier than a taxi cab will unironically blitz you. You know what can be put on those boats? Missiles, which are logistically superior to traditional bombers in nearly every means and way. Bombers that the US is only really able to use against non-peer threats. This is why we're ordering the new Raider by the way, since stealth coating a missile is basically impossible, it's the next technological development necessary to combat China's technologically growing air defense network.

This isn't the 70s and 80s anymore where we only have specific aircraft for specific missions. Most new fixed wing aircraft made for the US now are multirole and can be used for bombing duties if needed.
