The success of the Joe Rogan show was initially non-political - he invited guests he could vibe with, and they just had enjoyable conversations. As he has transitioned to a more political podcaster, he has really toned down his inquisitiveness. He pretty much plays the naive fool now, and lets his political (read: right wing) guests spout whatever nonsense they want to, and for the most part Joe just says "wow." Now we all know Joe is kind of dumb, but he's not that dumb. He knows he can ride this grift for another few hundred million dollars before it runs its course. But the show is far less entertaining or interesting than it used to be.

It's somewhat depressing to see how out of touch people like this are with the fact that people need actual jobs to feed their kids and even giving absolute losers and dumbfucks a role in society that gives them some value is one of the most important functions of society (lest you end up with even more incels shooting people).

If you look at the amount of actual violent rhetoric towards Elon Musk specifically and how he effectively does nothing to try and decrease it (at least Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates and Zuckerberg gave tons of money to charity and other shit and for the most part keep a fairly lowish profile) I wouldn't be surprised if something bad happens to him. Literally every single social media platform I open has open calls for violence against him in one way or another at an unprecedented scale.

And it won't be an "American agency or asset" because at this point he has thousands or maybe even millions of people who are openly fedposting about his fate every single day. He's doing nothing to stem the tide either and keeps pushing buttons.

edit: to quantify this a bit, I think I have seen actual dictators and warlords in actual shithole warzones have less open fedposting about them compared to Elon Musk.

This ties in with something that has troubled me about how X is moderated under Elon. I’ve seen the same accounts post literal death threats and dox people repeatedly, but they just get put in timeout but not suspended permanently. (Meanwhile, as has been covered extensively on this site, others are instantly permabanned for innocuous expressions of opinion.) The business case for tolerating high-risk/low-value users to fuck around indefinitely is not super clear to me.

It's also kind of wild to see people champion mass layoffs. I know people think the entire government is lazy and that mat be partly true but it is like they are unable to fathom there will be societal consequences (likely negative and likely lasting) if large numbers of people lose stable employment.

It's pushing things more and more to a world where people have to be a fucking doordash driver and take on multiple other jobs.

Reducing waste, fraud, and abuse ought to mean hunting down fraudulent claims and wasteful contracts. Firing federal workers doesn't really make much of a dent, to be quite honest. Even if you fired every single government worker, you might save $300 billion, which is only about 5% of the national budget.
