You can dislike him personally, but it's irrelevant to this point because his triple victories while under massive media scrutiny prove that, in fact, he does objectively know how to advantageously present himself during interviews.
I would think "soft power" would mean that America is the center of the world relative to culture, consumer/spending power and influence. Example: you see all these "save the world" or diasaster films, the majority of them center around America being the hero.
