Ah good. That still sucks when they phone in the armor, grinding for badass armor is like the carrot that’s supposed to keep you going
I will never forgive them for continuing to reuse the slap-on designs for World's returning monsters, they look so awful and the monsters deserve way better. The few unique designs are really good (Odogaron dual blades are fantastic) and I want to see that translated to the other weapon classes.

First they removed the MH language now Palicos no longer meow at me!
You can change it back to meows but there's still a Lynian subspecies (Wudwuds) that will speak English/Japanese regardless of whether or not you want them to, there is a reason for it though so I can kinda forgive it.

Endemic life and optional cosmetic quests are just, not there. Do you even get an apartment to put all these animals inside? You could tell me this was a Rise team production and I'd believe you. Knowing the next game is actually the Rise team makes me worried for the franchise. Like, we're at the point you'll see big franchises get two dogshit games in a row, knowing they won't now suddenly return to form.

MH is basically over, unironically.

I think the Rise team is going forward with the arcade-y MH and the World/Wilds team will be doing these more storyboard game. I feel they both have their place and I'm all for more Monster Hunter.

You mean the optional cosmetic quests that get added post launch in updates and it has been that way since the 3DS games? If anything, World made it commonplace for the cool cosmetics to be reserved for DLC.

-No canteen
-No houses
-No central hub
-No MH Language
-Alma follows you around everywhere and never shuts up

The charm and atmosphere of the older games just isn't there in Wilds. There's a lot of things I like about Monster Hunter with the general vibe being a big part of it and it's severely missing. There's something really comfy about the hubs, canteen, and everyone speaking in a made up language that these makeshift camps and eating food in your tent come nowhere near of replicating.

I know I already said it and it's an abstract feeling that's difficult to articulate, but it really does lack charm and I can't stress that enough.

I'm probably rubbing salt in the wound but they're adding the gathering hub in the first major update. That and the state of the final boss confirm to me that execs made them rush it out of the door.

Truly, Shakespeare from a rice-picker's brush

The gunlance feels improved, and the two wyrnes fire feels good, but what I like most is the perfect guard and the power clash. I know it is not unique for the gunlance, but it feels so good when it happens and helps to define the weapon type. I have yet to put time into the hammer and hunting horn, but I will after I am in high rank.
Perfect dodge makes dual blades disgustingly strong. Bad positioning doesn't matter and you can get greedy if you get a perfect dodge, and generally get to counter-attack with a buff while the monster whiffs. Between that and spreading damage across half-made wounds and then chaining invincible spiderman focus attacks buzz-sawing across their body multiple times while stunned, it's overpowered fun.

Rise is becoming a tad overrated. It’s got some of the oldschool charm but it’s mostly just as pozzed as world. And I still don’t forgive them for that Rampage mode bs. I know they memoryholed it super quick but that was legitimately the worst thing ever included in a Monster Hunter game

Agreed. I wasn't the biggest fan of Rise when comparing it to something like GU/4/Tri but it definitely was a classic MH that World wasn't.

Yeah it’s all relative. I don’t like the skills, armor designs, bright/ostentatious color pallet, dango instead of meat, and that all the maps are almost identical (ok the lava area is nice) but I still like it way better than World/Wilds.

Yeah as an extension of GU and trying to quicken up the combat pace more I like it a lot and have put a lot of time into it, fingers crossed whatever the portable team puts out next is good. I would really like them to get back to how satisfying hitting things felt in the old games. World and from what I've seen of Wilds it does that thing where you slice into a monster/flesh and you get a puff of drywall dust and Borderlands damage numbers and I absolutely can't stand that shit. The big draw to the older titles to me is discerning weak points from the hit feedback and the blood splatter without the game literally giving me damage number pop ups and going "SEE RETARD, HIT HERE WITH X WEAPON." Rise was just as bad in this regard with the fucking rave lightshows that would go off whenever you'd crit something which was all the time because WEX was OP and everyone ran it.

Yeah there’s zero impact, hitting the monster in the face with a GS used to SMACK. And the little half second flash of red for a crit was perfect. Now its like you said, a puff of dust, like clapping erasers together. It carries over to the feel of the whole game, it’s so inarticulate and clumsy. It seems like the portable team can get the feel just right. Definitely looking forward to whatever the hell they’re doing for Switch 2.

Been playing over the weekend and yeah, i find it a bit easier than world but guess i also have more experience now. Like, I have a ungodly amount of hours in MH over a couple different games so ofc imma be more prepared to what the game throw at me over all.

I'm having a blast with it so far. Love the monster design and cutscenes and since I switched from a glaive main to pretty much exclusively playing horn that also add to the enjoyment.
Like that the caracther is a instant bad ass instead of a newbie hunter and we play pretend that "oh gosh golly I didn't know i could do that".

The co-op is insanely retarded, no one can deny that but now I got the hang of it so at least I can connect with my squad under 15 minutes lol.

If you don't like the voice on the Cat just put it on "catspeak" and you don't have to listen to the grating kids voice.

Story is nice to have but I don't really care tbh. It's serviceable but I just wanna hunt big ass monsters and play some jaunty tunes.
Looking forward to the post credit game when it's just hunting whatever monster you feel like and collect cool gear.

I fully understand why people don't like it with the convoluted menus, crashing (happened 3 times so far on ps5) and maybe over all vibe of it but I think it's actually solid MH game. The world looks really nice with all the different biomes, the monsters are cool and the dino horse is gold during fights.

Maybe something change my mind later down the road but for now I'm getting more positives than negatives.
Hopefully we get a dlc blowing iceborn out of the water and maybe some of you can come back since its never nice being disappointed in a game series you really like.

The cat's voice is one thing, but my fucking character is literally a lisping faggot. I am baffled by it. He ruins every heroic act or serious situation when I hear his fruity voice. Genuinely what were they thinking?
Game is fun though and giving me a much less disjointed nonstop monster hunting than World. I just wish they made using BIGG sword a little more in depth (maybe it is and I'm just retarded). The wound destroying mechanic is satisfying though.
