I don't think there's much in it as a gotcha from the western perspective and if they actually are treated as cannon fodder, the russians won't want you to see that either - it would also mean that most of 'em would be dead before being able to give "interviews" anyhow.

The problem with that is: The guys who did fight back weren't the ones who got invaded - sure, SOME hailed from donbass, but most were maidan patriots from the west of ukraine, who wanted to "liberate" their fellow countrymen, whose vote they just invalidated with a coup detat.
