The European rivers by contrast larlgey incconnect and are NAVIGABLE the whole way, ancient vikings were able to sail from the baltic to the black sea using these rivers and only very rarley having to briefly haul their boats overland, we know this beacuse they trade with the people of the Caucuses and we have their records of the "terrifying" but intelligent norsemen who were "the filthiest of all allahs creatures" in their own words.

ive always heard it was the lack of beasts of burden like cows, ox and horses. american indians never had any use for wheels because they didnt have any animals that could pull a cart until the white man came along.

Lack of domesticate-able larger beasts, navigatable rivers and grain suitable for long-term storage is generally the main explanations for the comparable lack of civilizational progress for sub-saharan africa.



There's the racial component as well if you want to get controversial. South American peoples had some of the same geographical disadvantages as sub-saharan africa (like lacking large beasts able to be domesticated) but still had impressively powerful empires at the time of european contact, with their larger cities rivalling, even dwarfing, any single city of europe at the time.

And assuming the out-of-Africa theory of human evolution is correct, sub-saharan africa would have a thousands of years long headstart on europe and asia both in terms of civilizational progress.

On the topic of computer chips (semiconductors) this 2020 McKinsey report has some helpful visual aids.

Exhibit 1 shows supply and demand by country.
South Korea is almost balanced.
Japan supplies twice their own demand, so 1/2 their capacity is exports.
Taiwan has a large supply and a sliver of demand because they mostly export.
Europe, China, and the US gobble up everything they can't produce in-house.


Exhibit 2 shows production by node size (nanometers).
TSMC (Taiwan) and Samsung (S. Korea) produce with the smallest nodes (<10nm).


The older bigger process nodes are kept around because the factories already exist and it costs a fortune to build new factories. Humanity has an almost unlimited demand for chips, so after the old factories are "paid off" they basically just print money.

Newer smaller nodes allow for higher efficiency and higher top speeds.

Massively oversimplified example:
You can imagine a 10nm based chip is simply a 20nm chip that is 1/2 as long and 1/2 as wide. That would be 1/4 the size. You would get 100% the speed for 1/4 the electricity. Or you could put 400% the speed in the same area.

It is nowhere near that simple, but I hope that gives an idea on why newer nodes matter.

I'm listening to news out of ABC, CNN, The Daily Wire, and Fox which strongly suggests that Democrats told Zelenskyy to tank the meeting just so the Democrats could try and make Trump look bad. I'm not sure if Zelenskyy was on coke. He wasn't grinding his teeth like most cokeheads do. However, I think he was looking for a way to attack Trump and was not expecting Trump to do a kiss-and-smile presser.
