I think it's a bit of both, trying to fuck up Trump's plans and journos have -70 IQ. They know stuff about Ukraine/Russia cannot be discussed publicly until an actual deal is drawn up and signed, anything else is just basic political theater.

If that was the only thing, I don't think Biden would have been as generous with his aid to Ukraine. They got dirt on him and Hunter due to Hunter's time there, which is why Biden gave billions worth of aid free of charge.
