Cartoon Industry thread - Showcasing the Spergery of the Animation Industry

I feel this is a defacto consequence of the rise of the Internet. The current year™ Internet created this ecosystem where you have an entire generation of content creators built on the backs of speculating about new shows, movies, or games, and the content in the upcoming iterations of them. It's what created the "and get excited for next product" part of that one RedLetterMedia meme, and why post-credits scenes in movies are as popular as they are post-Marvel. Basically, the company makes the product, social media talks about the product, and YouTubers speculate about the product which generates even more buzz around it. Rinse and repeat until the series finale or if the show jumps the shark.

I certainty would like a few more shows that stay self-contained and don't do much in the way of over-arching plots, but then that would just upset the content pipeline, and eventually drive certain kinds of people insane.

There’s a horror novel that does this concept right it’s called beyond the trees where nobody sees

Serialized shows have been a thing for a long time, though in the world of TV Animation, Avatar is definitely what helped popularize it. Adventure Time was, IIRC, loosely connected at first with a world lore that was built upon over time, while Gravity Falls was full-on plot-based. I'd say GF is what ultimately popularized the format from 2012/2013 onwards, but I could be forgetting something.
I remember Danny Phantom having a shifting status quo was big news back in 2004, that's probably the earliest western animated show I can think of that did it. I support serialization to an extent, I used to hate as a kid when an episode ended and the next episode came on like nothing in the last one changed anything (like if a character's house was destroyed, then next episode nothing ever happened, or if a character had growth in one episode then went back on that later on.) Of course serialization sucked sometimes when I was a kid because I wasn't in control of how often I got to watch TV, so I'd miss something important and be lost the following week (which is why I didn't get into ATLA until I was much older.) The Internet makes it infinitely easier to not miss an episode and get lost like that, but it also makes people want to watch everything all at once instead of over the course of a season. It's like an unending chain of pros and cons.

I literally just saw a video about that book last night, it's a series of comic books. The whole thing is framed as a mystery. I wouldn't classify it as a "self-contained" story just because it has a beginning, middle, and end, though. It's kind of limited by the medium of being a set of books rather than an ongoing televised serial.

I want to go through and find out what magical girls shows she's plagiarized/ripped off, but I don't want to give her views.

EDIT: Almost five minutes in, and the one chick is clearly reading Sailor Moon. LAME.

I know I've seen this movement, I just can't get a face for the character, but I'm still thinking Sailor Moon especially since she poses as such at the end.

Kind of sad how the guy actually managed to get a pilot on Nicalodeon and then fell of hard and now is drawing a a furry porn comic about his self insert whose in a poli relationship with a fox girl and a totaly not black fetish stereotype bear girl.

He is so close with coming out as trans.

Just looked this guy up. He can fucking draw but...
Wow. What a waste...

I remember reading a 4chan screencap once that stated the reason why media, not just cartoons, sucks nowadays is because people just aren't experiencing actual real life stuff happening to them. Thousands of years of human interactions and outdoor experience made for interesting and wild tales depending on who it happened to. Now everyone is more or less content with staying in doors and living the easy life if they can. Not to say it isn't possible to tell interesting stories as someone who didn't have to fight to survive in caveman/black plauge/World War/Great Depression days, but when you're someone like Saberspark or LS Mark where making YouTube slop and watching cartoons is your only reference for "experience" and "interesting stories", that's when you gotta do something like hunt an animal or get in a fist fight just to say you did something kinda interesting when retelling it.
Because that's what old cartoons were about, telling interesting, fun stories. Now it's self fellation over gender and social shit made to only appease manchildren and those behind it, because what else are these people gonna tell? That time someone called them a retard on Twitter for having a shit take?
This is exactly what Miyazaki was talking about when he made the interview that the Internet boiled down to become the "Anime was a mistake!" meme. Anime creators are nowadays just old otakus whose life start and ends on there hobbies and never branch out.

Simmilary these new cartoon creators have no life experience beyond ther comfortable hugboxes which is why all there stories look the same. All the villians are stand ins for ther "racist, conservative" family members the friend group is extremly ethnically diversed which could be possible only in a few blue state cities in the US and the MC is a self insert whose only flaw is that they can't accept how perfect they are.

I believe there's positives and negatives to serialization and episodic formats:
  • In series, you have something akin to the television shows, where a format of "the last episodes and seasons influence the following episodes and seasons". The biggest one definitely being Gravity Falls, yet Danny Phantom had some influences especially by Season 3.
    • Positive would be interlinked episodes where you have to follow things and solve clues to understand where will the cartoon lead the characters, much like a TV Show; while a negative is that you don't have leeway for filler (which some people may want to have it). I personally wouldn't mind perhaps imagining some idea of "Bill Cipher fucked off, how is the lives of people in the town? Hell, how is the daily life of the Pines twins back in their own house???"
  • While in episodic, you had to be careful to squeeze things that happened last episode(s) before the return of the "status quo". The biggest example would be The Simpsons and SpongeBob SquarePants.
    • Positive would be "episode of the week, or happening that has nothing to do with the last episode", where you can be creative; while a negative would give a clean slate and make the cartoon go stale.

The funny thing is, Japan is a homogenous country... where theoretically the diversity you have is of thinking and personality. So much for "civic nationalism". Then again, their "peculiarities" are some of the things I won't understand.

Turns out that Jessiefag sheboon put out her Magicgirl anime slop full of niggers.

"I'm fifteen"
You look like you just started middle school.

It's just mid. That's all I have to say. Normally, I wouldn't say anything and move on because I'm not the target audience for this, but between this and Hazbin Hotel, I feel like I can't find any decent animation I can say I enjoy and keep a straight face. A couple of one-trick ponies once said, "There's plenty of independent animation targeted at mentally ill teenage girls, but what about mentally ill teenage boys? And 30 year old men? Don't we matter too?" No. Space king does not count.

Holy shit you guys got an animation thread that's sick. I'm an animator myself and watching the Animation industry kill itself is a depressing thing. Is there like an actual Kiwi community where animators or like enthusiasts do art and shit?
yes, I got invited in evendoe i haven't said anything there yet i just feel like im lacking in the artistic department
ask @Chromeo to invite you if he's cool with it
