Without leaving Asia, consider that Japan, Korea and Thailand are all essentially ethnostates (with more than 96% of the population being of the majority ethnicity and the remainder being almost entirely other Asians). They also happen to be among the strongest US allies. Oh, and throw in Taiwan, with more than 95% Han Chinese.

China are Russia aren't ethnostates. By geography alone, the two countries cannot be ethnostates. One spans continents while the other spans a good 4-5 timezones while being adjacent to a multitude of cultures. China specifically has a major Muslim minority population, Turkic people, actual Russians who escaped Joseph Stalin (yes, White Chinese), Koreans (chaoxian people) and so on. Russia is the same as China but flipped, being Russian majority with Chinese/Korean/Japanese/Muslim minority groups.
What kind of monoculture ethnostate allows religious minorities to practice their festivals publicly? At least in America you can say Ramadan is gay and participants blow themselves up, statements that will land you in a police office in Mainland China.
Now, before this fat fuck claims the countries' rulers are primarily the supermajority with laws that marginalise minorities -- China has a public servant pipeline offered by the CPC. Any minority group member gets a major boost in their high school (gaokao) scores and even smaller groups are guaranteed governmental public servant roles. This pisses China's terminally online Han fascists off to no end. This is similar to Aboriginals in Australia. I'm sure Russia has something similar for their minority groups. Pat is such a dumb westoid egotist, he might as well be on those dimwitted Wikipedo pages about western biases. China's Han supermajority is different depending on region too. Han is a gigantic mutt race, the Hans are successful in the region because even when the rulers belong to a minority group, they must adhere to the supermajority. When the Hans get pissy, genocide occurs. If the group cannot be killed off, they will be bred out of existence, absorbed into the Han race. Even the so called 95% supermajority is full of intrinsic differences.
The only difference between the two systems is that countries like China has a socially constructed unified identity, that being "we're all Chinese but different", while the West tries to play this multiculturalism ballgame that ends up pissing every fucking group off for different reasons (like Australia's The Voice vote, even the two Aboriginals I know voted against it because they think it makes them look like babies in need of a nanny).
I also love how he conveniently ignores South Korea and Japan, two countries that are pro-western but culturally and racially far less diverse than China/Russia (there's nothing wrong with it).
Or some of the other American allies that only recently allowed those pesky XX chromosome having properties worth about 2.5 goats to operate a vehicle.
