Seriously unless you're buying industrial equipment (and even then internally it's just shit CCP parts not even Taiwanese) good luck. off the top of my head the USA made stuff I regularly use are (not counting food items or shit like tires or how my car is technically made in Texas but owned by a multinational corp): my lodge cast iron (they're the only foundry left in the usa), a pair of usa made new balance, a hat from a small company, my wrangler jeans, my suits and a comb. Everything else is made in China, India, Mexico, Vietnam, Malaysia, Egypt, Japan, Korea or Bangladesh. And of quality Japan, Korea and some Mexican goods are worth buying.
In the world of precision, like precision measuring equipment, the only players are Japan, Germany and USA

And anyway, let’s say the price was pushed onto the costumer. The amount of jobs that would be moved here domestically would far outweigh any sort of hypothetical price of goods in the long run. Think forwardly.
There are a lot of underlying assumptions. The tariff would have to be raised high enough to make it cheaper to produce in the US than anywhere else. If the price of the tariffed imported good is still less than the cost of a domestically produced good, then there will be no switch to domestic production.

When figuring out the cost of the domestic good, factor in the set up of the factory, the cost of resource inputs (especially if they are tariffed as well), American salary costs, etc.

That long run will be years, way past an election cycle, if not several. All for American consumers to pay a high cost for goods that used to be cheap and to eventually pay a marginally lower cost for goods produced domestically. What is to be done in the meantime to offset the high prices consumers will face?

Just makes no sense for America (only country that matters for export purposes) to have a negative trade balance with any of it's trade partners purely from the perspective of it being the biggest market in more ways then one. Too many countries get billions from us every year in trade surplus due to tariffs, bad deals or other shit things every non Trump president has done for at least 30 years that makes us fund everyone.

Any of these countries would do the same or more if the positions were reversed so I don't really care if Canada can't sustain a 25% tariff. At a minimum the trade balances need to be even and overall we need to be winning every deal because we are the only market that people can't live without.

With all the coping and sneeding from Trudeau, why didn't he just negotiate?
Trump is a deals guy. Offer him something.
"Trump I understand wanting Tariffs but maybe we can negotiate some existing deals in return for lower tariffs so your infrastructure has time to catch up..."
Something. Anything.
He didn't even try? As far as I can tell he made no counter offer. Even when given an olive branch he did fuck all for the pause period.
Why doesn't Trudeau try to negotiate? At all? It's fucking frustrating to see because I don't like Canadians but it benefits us to have strong, competent neighbors and they're just acting like braindead retards instead of NEGOTIATING.
Serious answer is that liberals can't negotiate. There is a big issue with them being unable to negotiate wages and basically anything you can imagine and it has been that way for awhile. All Trudeau has to do is enforce the border and equalize the trade imbalance and tariffs never would've happened.

Trump's even been kvetching about how Canadian banks can operate in the US and US banks can't operate in the state of Canada on social media for weeks now. That's fruit so low it's fallen to the forest floor

The empty lot to factory is planned in advance. They already have a location chosen, have conducted town hall meetings to get public support, gotten all the permits, gone to the planning commission, have plans for water and power to be hooked up, secured regional construction firms, and have the logistics in place for all the machinery they need (manufacturing machinery takes time to engineer and needs to be shipped over either by ship or by semi, but that's even more planning).
If you’re building a mega plant, sure.

Most manufacturing actually comes from small guys, shops that fit in any warehouse and have around 100 total employees. Bigger plants often are assembly locations for parts they’ve subcontracted

The main concern is you need a big electricity supply

Trudeau couldn't negotiate because he prorogued parliament to avoid losing a vote of no confidence. When he "resigned", he froze the country politically on a federal level, so no new legislation could be passed, which would be required to do anything Trump is demanding.

Yes, Canada is basically a dictatorship thanks to a joke of a constitution written by Pierre Trudeau to force the Liberal Party's dogma to control the country even when they aren't in power.

Your exports are collapsing and you're about to experience your very own great leap forward.

And Fagdeau acting like Canada has never been mean to the US, when they boo and act like morally superior faggots at every chance, read the room. Now I want to crush them even more. You would think Canada would take a note from Japan on how to act like an ally but they let in so many Chynese they instinctively have to do the retarded opposite
I travel often. All I hear from foreigners is how stupid Americans are. They can't name their own politicians. They're forced fed MSNBC and CNN. You ask them why that is, they all say "American news is the world's news". My personal favorite was New Zealand. No you retarded fuck wads, you live on island in the middle of fucking nowhere on the edge of the planet. America barely even trades with you. You are not part of the World News. You've been bread and circused and you're too dumb to see it. Yet you all constantly act morally superior and more intelligent despite not understanding this simple concept.

The reality is, Eurocucks and Westerners are some of the most over socialized retarded mother fuckers I've ever met in my God damn life. It's no wonder their countries are failing and gaping their butt holes for millions of rapefugees to turn them into onaholes. They've been completely psyoped into believing being a good, well mannered individual is more important than being logically and objectively correct. That's why I've been saying for these past few days; I am perfectly fine with Putin storming Europe and conquering the continent and killing millions, if not billions of you faggots. This pompous attitude and entitlement towards American gibs have shown how useless and evil these fuckers are and my sympathy is gone.

Edit: Oh and everything I said goes triple for you faggots in Canada. I hope Trudeau sends you to Ukraine so you aren't stabbed to death by the now homeless and infinite Brown niggers Trudeau has imported.

Canada’s parliament is prorogued on account of Trudeau’s resignation and his government collapsing. Nothing can be signed or voted on by Canada’s government until March 24th, which could lead to new elections and a new government forming.

Yes. Every night I pray to God trump succeeds in making Canada 51st state. Or at least a territory.

This is what I'm seeing with the Ukraine situation too. They cannot seem to comprehend Ukraine is in a weaker position and needs to concede some points to come out alive. They would rather sustain a pointless war rather than negotiate because negotiating with Russia is "letting them win."
It's the same with Canada. It's like negotiating isn't even an option in their mind. Only retaliation, complaining, or doing nothing.
Even Trudeau admitted Canada was in a weaker position but instead of going for the classic "Honey, let's talk about this!" when the stronger partner is mad, he just gets angry and lashes back resulting in an escalation and Trump deciding he can't make deals with you so he'll just enforce what he wants and ignore your pathetic whining.
They're so retarded.

Edit: I didn't know about the Canadian parliament thing. That is useful information. Why not just say that you can't pass any new legislation until the end of the month and work out some starter deals to circle back to until then? You don't have to double down and get ass hurt. Hell, Trump was negotiating and making deals before he was even in office.

I hope Trump knows what he is doing.
At minimum, he understands that he's got an extremely limited (relatively speaking) time to enact any change and no guarantee that whoever succeeds him will continue his actions, and he is therefore taking a significant gamble to correct the country as quickly and completely as possible.

While I don't necessarily enjoy being forcibly dragged through a game of chance, I can acknowledge that the US was in a very gradual death spiral up until this point; I think I would rather have someone take a potentially catastrophic risk if the only alternative presented to me is sitting back and hoping I die before the country completely implodes. It's certainly an interesting case study for why calls for revolution usually go no where; a guarantee of suffering in exchange for the chance of future prosperity is a bit hard to stomach.

It's so funny watching boomers completely sperg out going "it's the end of the world my stonk portfolio is only worth 2.8 million instead of three million! Aren't you youngsters outraged? Don't you want to go to war with the fed on our behalf?"

Uh no? Don't call it a grave ect ect.
There could be an apocalypse and line would still go up.

It’s the same reason people think line going up reflects reality, they expect conditions that no longer exist. Trudeau doesn’t realize that progress, well, progresses and the left aren’t the only ones who can pull levers. When he “resigned” and effectively froze the country, he expected Trump to follow what’s in the manual. He thinks it’s still the Obama/Biden Handler days when the US will fold because that’s how the system works and that’s how it’ll always work. They don’t know how to negotiate. They never had to.

Or it could be that Trump laid off a hundred thousand middle class workers and is taking actions to make the cost of living increase.
If you're talking about DOGE laying off several federal government employees and departments, all they had to do was A) accept a buyout, B) write an email explaining what they do on a weekly basis, C) use their experience from their government job to apply for other work. AFAIK, they had eight months to prepare for a massive restructuring. It's not like this just happened out of the blue.
