Business Furious Customer Finds Racial Slur On Her Car’s Oil Change Sticker At GM Dealer - The dealership says the sticker was apparently made as a joke to a co-worker

  • The dealership immediately fired the worker for leaving the disgusting message.
  • The customer says the dealer tried to sneakily remove the sticker after delivering the car back.
  • Kunes Buick GMC has described the message left as “despicable and indefensible.”
A Buick and GMC dealership in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, has come under fire after it was revealed an employee left a racial slur on the oil change sticker of a customer. According to the dealer, it fired the worker who left the sticker, but for the owner of the car, the damage had already been done.

The vehicle in question is owned by local resident Makayla Starks. She purchased her Nissan Rogue from Kunes Buick GMC – Oak Creek last year and in January, went in for a free oil change. Unbeknownst to her, an employee added the N-word to the oil change sticker on her windshield.

Speaking with Fox 6 Now, Starks said shortly after she picked up her car, she received several text messages and phone calls from dealer employees. In one message, a lot attendant from the dealer claimed a service technician had left a tool in the engine bay of her SUV and wanted to come to her house to retrieve it. Starks denied that there was any tool left in her Nissan. She soon found out the real reason why the dealer had been contacting her.

Subsequent messages from a dealer employee revealed staff wanted to remove the offensive sticker from the car and exchange it, without her knowing. It’s only then that Starks looked at the service sticker and saw the racial slur that had been added to it.

“It was the N-word,” said Starks. “When I first saw the sticker, I cried – immediately – I just sat there in my car and cried.”

Writing on Facebook, the dealer said the sticker was supposed to be a joke to a co-worker and didn’t intend on a second copy being printed and affixed to Starks’ car. Kunes Buick GMC described it as a “despicable and indefensible act” and that the employee responsible was fired immediately.

“We are deeply disturbed and saddened by the incident that has come to light involving one of our employees and a customer, her sense of safety and dignity,” the dealer said in a statement. “We want to be unequivocal: this behavior and the hateful sentiment it implies are absolutely against our values as a company. There is no place for racism or discrimination within our dealership or community.”

Earlier this month, a small group of locals gathered outside the dealership in protest. Meanwhile, Starks and her attorney have called for a community boycott and are demanding the names of all employees involved.

New York dealership gives new car to West Allis woman who found racial slur on oil change sticker

The West Allis woman who found a racial slur on her oil change sticker is being gifted a brand new electric car.

Not from the dealership that left the sticker, but from one nearly 900 miles away in New York.

New York dealership gets wind of the story

The story reached Family Nissan, 600 Burnside Ave., Inwood, New York, and the dealership decided to gift Starks a new car.

Ramzey Rizk of Family Nissan said he saw a Fox 6 news story which included some protesters out front of the dealership.

“The team here got kind of fired up to add more support and add more voice to her voice and to her narrative and to push her message forward that this should’ve never happened,” he said.

At a Saturday morning meeting, a manager brought up the story and an idea to gift Starks a car formed, which Rizk said "erupted the whole meeting."

It wasn’t about processes or sales numbers; he said it was about doing what was right.

“We did it together as a family, you know, Family Nissan,” Rizk said.

The dealership decided to give Starks a brand new Nissan Leaf, an electric car with a $38,000 MSRP, according to Rizk. The idea of an electric car was so Starks didn’t need to get oil changes anymore.

Starks said the word gratitude was at the forefront of her thoughts as she made plans to travel to the dealership in New York.

“I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the dealership and getting to know them a bit,” Starks told the Journal Sentinel before leaving. “Based on this heartfelt gesture, I just know they are kind people, and the world needs more of that.”

Dealership visit turns into book signing for Makayla Starks

Starks' visit to the dealership on March 1 with her fiancée Joey Koepp was filled with food, supportive staff, and multiple copies of Starks' self-published book titled, “A Painting Bird’s Whisper: Poetry & Prose.”

Rizk said they found out she was a published writer and someone on staff bought multiple copies of her book out of support.

“We kind of turned it into a book signing event,” Rizk joked.

Starks told the Journal Sentinel she "unironically" published the book last year “about overcoming the internalized shame that accompanies not meeting societal standards of ‘normal’ under the American patriarchy.”

The 232-page book was self-published by Makayla Rae on Amazon in March 2024.

“It is a mixture of literary fiction and poetry that tells the story of a neurodivergent woman of color who learns to love herself while navigating things like childhood trauma, single motherhood, poverty, and the intersectionality of race, gender, and class discrimination she faces on a daily basis,” Starks said.

As for the car, Rizk said arrangements were made to transport it back to Wisconsin.

I honestly felt a little bit of sympathy for her, but that immediately ended when I read this sentence.

lol a free Nissan Leaf? I bet it's inventory that's been sitting on that dealer's lot for 6+ months and they're getting rid of it as a tax writeoff. People would rather take public transport than buy Leafs these days.

And she will be driving it in fucking Wisconsin in the winter, where they have snowdrifts bigger than the Leaf and -20 degree temperatures so the battery will take 500 years to charge anyway. Reminds me of those people who spaz out when they win some piece of shit car on the Price is Right.

Thats the point, it's a trap they are trying to take her out and maintain plausible deniability. Truely these white devils are despicable.

This is actually pretty smart. You get free publicity, a tax write-off and you get to offload a piece of shit that’s rotting away on the dealership lot.

When was the last time you saw a Nissan Leaf on the street?

Edit: ninja’d

Are you fucking kidding me? What's next, a government position?
Would've been installed at the DOT had they not had Trump cut their funding.

While probably still qualifying for some government or corporate grant that nabs you a bonus for "selling an EV".
