what's wrong with computer mice?

I've used almost everything also. Thanks for the Pulsar suggestion, I might get one. I never heard of the brand before.

I'm personally using a Logitech G305 which despite being a bit of a budget model works quite well. It's reliable, comfortable and seems more durable than their more expensive models. A friend of mine suggested a Logitech MX Master 2S not too long ago and I bought one but found it to be shit (it seems like something for laptop users I guess).

For those of your jonesing for an MX518//519 they sell plenty of them on Amazon as OEM or even refurbished units. But they're not very cheap. They do last for ages though and are one of the best mice out there still.
edit: it turns out the OEM MX518s aren't a thing anymore but Logitech has a refreshed version and judging from the reviews its just as good as the original. But it is like $110 USD so not a budget model.
What I don’t understand is why they don’t refresh the G9x. They go for like $300-$400 on Amazon even with the shitty 4000 dpi sensor, so clearly, they are still quite desirable, at least for people with funky mutant hands who enjoy that short and wide RAT-like shell shape.

I did some searches, fooling around, and I found this. Not sure if it’s within @ArgonianVoter’s price range. Never tried it myself. Looks interesting.

Are you me? I've been a trackball user since I got my first Microsoft Trackball Optical a good quarter of a century ago, and my thumbs are still going strong
LOL, yes. I have two of them. Bought a second one once the used prices started to go up. Fits my hand like a glove.

I haven't bought one of the Ploopy knock-offs yet, but I'm tempted to. My only gripe is the roller bearings they use in lieu of the ball bearings on the original. Otherwise, it's a 1:1 size and shape replica.

Well now I'm interested in a Ploopy Thumb. Fairly reasonably priced as well for the kit, and it being an open design I'm sure the bearings could be sorted

I'm definitely still going to get one at some point. The open design thing is a nice feature, and you can print your own housing out of whatever you like. The fact that they added a couple of buttons and have the open firmware going on too is a nice plus.

Is there a well built premium mouse out there? Something with some heft? Ideally I could swing it like a club.

One of the better mice I used was Microsoft mobile one from about ten years ago.

My middle mouse button and scroll wheel keep dying
That seems to be the big issue with me with these newer mice these days.

The one I'm currently using will once in a while just decide to scroll back up when I'm scrolling down, like the sensor inside is messed up or something.

The last one I had got to the point where I had to actually use some force to scroll press the wheel in order for it to register that I wanted to scroll

While trackballs are retarded for moving the cursor, mice need to have trackball scroll wheels. Sometimes I need to scroll both vertically and horizontally, which is impossible with regular scroll wheels. Someone should make optical mouses with trackball scroll wheels, as I can't find any examples of them online.

i’ve been using a first gen Logitech MX Master for almost a decade now and it’s worked flawlessly, including both scroll wheels

I miss those cyborg r.a.t. mice that had a great thumb scroll wheel and where extremely adjustable with the movable palm
i was using a RAT 9 for a while and it was the most comfortable mouse i’ve ever used but i had to keep buying new ones because random things kept breaking. the MX Master is close enough and it doesn’t break after just a year of use

A laptop touchpad's not bad if you set up two finger scrolling but I hate the little keyboard nipple things. They're fucking stupid.
The clit is perfect for mobility. If all you're doing is light file work, typing, reading, surfing. It keeps your fingers right on the home row. It's almost unusable for 3d-use and downright bad for 2d. Give it a few hours.

The trackpads activate accidentally while typing, you have to move your hand back and forth from the keyboard and it's as slow as the clit if not slower.

Mouse is king, the clit is bad but the trackpad is worse.

I recently needed my work laptop replaced and I got a """new""" one that doesn't have dedicated left and right buttons and the TouchPad isn't nearly as sensitive as the old one.

This is pretty much the only thing that is worse than my old one, but it's annoying enough that I want my shitty old one back.

While I could technically use a mouse, the way I have my laptop set up makes it really difficult to use a mouse.

Maybe I can beg IT for my old one back once it's fixed.

My G703 is quite nice, sadly OpenRGB doesn't want to change the lighting :/
Have you had it for awhile? I’ve owned two and the mouse wheels have failed me both times. First mouse, my ogre paws completely broke the mount, second mouse, the wheel is still attached but scrolls like it’s got Parkinson’s the moment any dust gets inside.

About a year, all I've noticed is the rubber is a bit worn and the top is getting smooth but that's normal for mice.

I tend to go one hand on the trackpad one hand on.the keyboard when I use them and it works fine.

Obviously a mouse is best but I've used a trackpad and the mouse clitty and I fucking hate clitty always. I've had the unfortunate experience trying to play Diablo with both, it is entirely unplayable with the clitty mouse but barely manageable with a trackpad.

I burnt through a couple of decent dell wired mice scroll wheels really quick, at least one logitech too
Seems that a lot of manufacturers have issues if you really use your wheel, especially if you click button 3

I find it's easier for me to just get a pile of $2 and under chinesium mice as a type I like pops up on ebay, then after a while when it starts to act up just chuck it and grab another from the bucket

I have owned every generation of the Logitech MX Master series. They’re that good. I need another MX Anywhere as my current one is worn out somewhat. But they’re fantastic mice.
