I figure he'd replace Ollie the Magic Bum in THPS 3 and 4's more absurd challenges. That was when the series began to become less serious, no doubt due to the Jackass influence.
Side note: "96 Quite Bitter Beings" by CKY is returning to the soundtrack. So obviously they must have worked out something with Jess.

With 4 it was still all about skateboarding. Sure you were grinding around the San Francisco pier to dunk fish heads onto cops, but you weren’t going out of your way to placate to the mini games. THUG, despite having the most coherent skate related plot was when they started fucking with the game engine so you had skitch cars round the neighborhood or climb up buildings to tag graffiti. THUG 2 might as well have been called Jackass: The Video Game

Pretty much accurate. I still think myself that THPS3 was the best of the series, as it was still a fun skateboard simulation but added some minor absurdity to the levels/challenges (why would you skate around boiling hot molten iron?) to appeal to the "EXTREME" generation of Mountain Dew drinking gamers.
THUG1 and THUG2 I never really enjoyed because the storyline overshadowed the gameplay. I also felt that the on-foot sections existed only because open-world third person gameplay was a big thing at the time (mimicking GTA3), and the developers jumped on the bandwagon with all the grace of a drunken Juggalo.
American Wasteland added a Classic mode (with THPS1-3 style challenges within a 2 minute time limit) which was a lot more fun, but the main game wasn't that great overall. Worst in the series is still Ride/Shred, which used that expensive plastic skateboard that never worked properly.

Are any of the THPS games actually worth playing beyond 3? I have insanely fond memories of the airport level in 3. Never played 4. THUG looked stupid to me, and by that time, I had stopped skating completely since I was objectively poor at it and got tired of fucking my body up for nothing.

I tried skateboarding about 3 times and it definitely wasn't my thing but I loved the old tony hawk games. I even had the one on Gameboy color®. Is the new game decent?

The remake of 1+2 was awesome. I, personally, loved it and will load it up ever so often for a few minutes. Dunno about 3+4 yet. I believe it’s being released in July and being headed by a team that has a kind of questionable track record.

1+2 is definitely the best Tony Hawk game, only reason you’d prefer prior entries is if you have a preference for old school graphics or were nitpicky about the precise mechanics of one of the 5th or 6th gen Tony Hawk games. And 1+2 even has options to turn off modernized mechanics.
I think they’ve sold 1+2 for as low as $15 on Steam there’s no reason to get 3+4 new if you’re not a super fan. From my understanding 3+4 is more or less an expansion of 1+2 which is fine as it wasn’t like the original sequels didn’t just refine things and add more content.
Enough about game sperging I have to give credit where credit is due nice to see Bam didn’t melt down because Microsoft isn’t cutting him a check, he’s happy that Tony Hawk is still willing to be his friend and use said friendship to get some instagram attention. I can’t judge if it’s a sign of maturity because truth is Bam did have justification to be upset after being fired from Jackass. Still a sober(ish) Bam doesn’t come across as the narcissistic diva who attacked his brother and threatened to murder April Margera.
And one last backhanded compliment Bam is actually a more impressive skater today than he was in his heyday. It was @Rogowski who pointed out that Bam was never a real “Pro Skater”, I had no idea how bad mediocre he was. Most of his tape segment in THPS3 is him just falling on his ass and doing a few decent tricks.
Beyond that Bam posted a goofy video with pics of him and THE SHAMAN. I can’t laugh at it too much if he’s found Jesus well it’s surely better than the path headed he’s been on for more than a decade. YAH MON.

Makes me kinda sad seeing him young and fresh-faced and not yet fucking wrecked. I was a teenager when the CKY tapes were blowing up and I used to have such a crush on him. Looking at him these days just makes me want to vom, he's so puffy and gross and half-dead looking...

Bam, Edward Furlong, and Macaulay Culkin are all prime examples of what happens when you’re young, have stupid amounts of money, and are just kind of stupid. Even if they get in the straight and narrow, the damage has already been done. Look at Culkin, dude has kicked the hardcore drug habit for multiple years but still wears his scars. Granted, he looks a lot better than Bam and Edward… but lol

Generally speaking you just can’t force a junkie or someone with mental illness to get their shit together. It’s a trite saying but they need to want the help.
Bam was guilted and begged to get help spending a major portion of his life in swanky rehabs and it seemed to have done nothing for him. They tried to bribe him to get access with his son by staying clean and that wasn’t enough. What seemed like enough to keep him out of constant drama was 30 days in jail.

Ed Furlong never had a chance, if I recall correctly he was living in a group home when Hollywood found him and he didn't have a single family member or any sort of advocate for his own rights while he was being drowned in cash from T2

While I never was a good skater, I'd do anything to have a coffee with Rodney (GOAT) Mullen.
I always was a street fan and he is/was GOAT. Sorry on zoomer talk but just insane. My bro was 200% better and semi pro as a team, gotta see that and saw an IRL casper slide. Bam in his prime couldn't spin never great street.
This summer there's a cool local skate shop to me where you buy a beer/food watch kids skate and the money goes to them for pads travel etc. I know I've said before if Bam swallows his pride he could run a shop and be awesome dude and mentor. He won't he's bam.
Now I'm gonna have a beer look at those old 411 vid mags... on vhs.
