It almost goes without saying because it sounds stupid, but homeless people are homeless for a reason that tends to revolve around mental illness, drugs, or a fan favorite - both. We have the euphemism "down on their luck" to describe someone who is temporarily or accidentally homeless but the sad truth is not every person can exist in modern aociety as there are those where nothing could ever shape them into a normal citizen permanently. Convincing a schizo to take their meds, if they don't want to, can spiral very quickly. Forcing someone clean when they've always used substance to run away from how they think and feel is torturous if they don't want to push through and finally deal with stuff.
Getting a gambling addict to take enough responsibility for pissing their money away that they won't do it again is like fighting a force of nature. Gambling is just what they do and it comes naturally for them. Same goes for hood niggers who only know hood life because living hood life comes naturally for them all.
It's sad there are people who can't reap the benefits of being an upstanding citizen in our society, no doubt. I guess this is what asylums were for in the past?
