Naw, not horrifying. Minor self harm is normal for people like her, and many therapists encourage it, though not in the way she does it, as it helps bring them back to a baseline. You must remember that people like her are emotionally stuck in their early teen years. She's very lucky that BPD, which is the cause behind this kind of emotional stunting, can significantly improve over time and with proper therapy.
