A diversion:

Recent Dead By Daylight clone "Forsaken" shuttered its community server to all but its members dumb enough to pay for Discord. The immediate prelude to this decision was the forced removal of a series of character skins from the otherwise-unrelated "Dream Game" (exploration-heavy puzzle game, pretty fun from what I remember) they initially received permission to use.


Forsaken actually isn't the first recent Roblox-based DBD clone to do this—almost as if there's a pattern in making games in a genre infamous for attracting the worst people alive—but is more interesting to see this result from.
Both Dream Game and Forsaken rely heavily on the look and feel of "old Roblox", with the latter leaning really hard into nostalgiafagging with both killers and survivors that are taken directly from admins, "myths", and memes centered around abandoned accounts—and the obnoxious fandom culture that permeates a number of Roblox games now thrives off of the "neoclassic" aesthetic. Dream Game was/is still fairly obscure, but the inclusion of those skins in Forsaken resulted in a boom of players that came at the cost of that culture metastasizing over to it. Not that most of them bother to play Dream Game for long. You see, getting lost in a puzzle game takes away valuable time that could instead go towards "toxic yuri" (Eunoia and Nashatra are women) and other current-day fandom brainrot—hence the addendum about porn.

Okay a bit of an odd annoucement to make but we are not misogynistic. I don't understand where that came from. We plan on adding more feminine characters to the game as its largely masculine/androgenous characters.

As August said, Eunoia and Nashatra are extremely vital characters to the story of dream game. Thus, they cannot be "redesigned". Mafioso is able to be redesigned since the mafia are like goombas, characters who have little to no writing about them.

Again, refunds will be given out and debito di sonno will be reused.

There's a story behind this statement I don't think I could understand even if I wanted to know what it is.

Roblox is an all-ages platform whose userbase frequently grows up with the platform. That isn't the case for every adult user—and I side-eye any non-staff who join for the first time when they're already overage—but it's a significant portion of adult users regardless.

Also this is more about virtual lego games in general and not just Roblox, but keep in mind that this website was (co-)founded by a Blockland sperg.

I've been playing ROBLOX since about 2010 and I've found myself playing it less and less. Nowadays, I find myself only hopping on to a classic game once or twice a month, like Work at a Pizza Place for the nostalgia. Probably mostly because I've grown and moved on, but also every time I find myself checking the popular games tab there's almost nothing worthwhile. Most of the popular tab is filled to the brim with obvious cashgrabs (simulator games and the like. Dev-Ex and its' consequences have been a disaster for the Robloxian race), a re-skinned copy of another game, barely-disguised fetish games (Transfur-fag shit, "snowy-giantess rp", etc. Come the fuck on, Roblox jannies. I know you faggots personally goon to that shit but at least TRY to look like you care.), or maybe something that's fun for like, 5 minutes until the novelty wears off. There's really nothing on the site worth logging in every day to play anymore.

Yeah, it really feels like it was the exact point that Roblox's games lost their soul. No more were the days of kids throwing together something for fun to play with their friends and maybe make some tix off of for catalog items. Instead, they were replaced by a bunch of faggots (who probably groom their players) making the most unfun, over-monetized shitshows that better resemble casinos than video games. If the corporatization of Roblox and the death of Erik Cassel was the beginning of the end, Dev-Ex's introduction was the death knell for whatever remained of Roblox's tattered soul.

This is a big one, and the biggest thing that feeds into my other issues with actually playing Roblox at this point. Additionally:

1. The few people who still try to make things for fun learn the hard way that Roblox hates its developers and tend to dip from the platform partially, if not entirely. Nelson Sexton's an older example, Zeekerss is a newer example. I'm fully convinced YourFriendZeal will turn into this as soon as he can consider Pressure a "finished" game, but god knows when that'll be given the game updates at a pace nearly as glacial as its main inspiration.
2. The ones that stay and keep on trying make things that don't intrigue me. It doesn't help at all that these ones are prone to trend-chasing, which right now means there's a concentration of new games that aren't money-grubbing turboslop out the gate but are (or at least start out as) derivative homages to other Roblox games. Things are so tired.

There's other points that come to mind, but involve too-specific game-by-game lorefagging or personal burnout to list as general issues. Community happenings and the disasters that come from them are frequently more interesting than the games those things surround at this point.

Nelson Sexton is the main guy behind Deadzone (the other guy being H75), in 2013 his game had been stolen via exploits because Roblox was hilariously broken back in the Early 2010s. Game theft was incredibly common. He left Roblox for Unity and went to make Unturned. I made a post on back in December on how the game had devolved into utter autism.

I've seen it on Tumblr, man. Modern roblox users will gravitate and Tumblrsexyman-ify these characters despite they're just clear nostalgia references. Like, what happened to just generally appreciating characters or how they're interpreted in the game? It's like the only thing a good majority of these people can do with these characters in roblox games nowadays is either shipping or slapping them with le quirky lgbt headcanons. Granted, there's probably not much going on with them so they have to treat them like they own the characters themselves.

But at least it's not as bad as people mad shipping a (canonical, mind you) ship of a wooden mannequin and tall, slate-textured character from Regretevator. Then again, I can't be too mad. Most of the people doing this are minors and they'll (hopefully) grow out of it in the future.
