Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

The kid blasting rap down the mic on main chat should be muted.
Yes, easy. It's a hinderance, but not enough to report it for that instance.

The camper hiding out getting cheap kills should be kicked, so too should the griefers. I don't agree that this should be handled by MS or Sony, nor do I think it's their responsibility to police it.
Xbox Live tried policing griefing through a reputation system that would affect your matchmaking if you were reported enough times for certain behavior. It was a disaster as it accounted for the number of reports, not necessarily the validity of them.

I think Sony has a patent that would detect your mood during gameplay. That's just an overreach and an invasion of privacy.

That already exists and is used by EA and Activision for online games to adjust prices of boosters. EA first mentioned this at a (secretly filmed) presentation back around 2009.
The idea is that they would matchmake you with players of a higher skill for a few matches until you said "this is my last match" or words to that effect. Then you would either be offered a booster of more health or damage "BUY IT NOW ONLY $4.99!!!!!!! FOR THE NEXT 15 MINUTES!!!!".
The idea of selling boosters was shot down and instead, when someone is pissed off on a game, they will be matched with lower-skilled players to keep them gaming, while more MTX ads flash autistically in the background.

It was a disaster because when they launched it on the 360, my friends and I received 24 hour bans for 'cheating' because we beat a load of kiddie-casual fags on MW2 because we played better. Again though, Xbox et al should not be the ones policing griefing because that's a lobby issues that should be dealt with in-lobby.

The "rep" on Xbox 360 and the "reputation system" from Xbox One are two different things. Random question, but do you still have the email they would send you when you're suspended?

Thread tax: I blame the mobile market for killing handheld gaming.

I don't, I use burner emails with that kind of shit. I didn't buy an X1 until the X1X dropped and I didn't play online. I haven't online gamed since Gears 3.

FTFY. I agree though.

If you are that much of a sensitive faggot that you have to report people for being better than you at games or for talking shit/micspamming, you should kill yourself. Unfortunately that applies to 99.9% of today's gamers and most available games, including fan-maintained servers of old games since they have cuck measures in place to prevent fun in favor of silent compfaggotry. There should be no policing of gameplay whatsoever except for hackers and porn spammers like in Valve games

It may have been groundbreaking at the time when it first came out, but that time has long since passed.
I think it's both neat and sad how video games are much more subject to technological and technical advancements. Dennis Fong coming up with WASD for movement was a revolution for PC gaming, so even if we ignore the graphics, playing non-WASD games on PC feels so aged. Same for plenty of old design choices like QTEs, they used to be everywhere during the sixth gen, but now everyone accepts they're shit.
You really have to know why an old game was revolutionary and why it broke standards to appreciate today. If the innovations are that widespread now, it's hard to appreciate it.

Fallout New Vegas is not good enough to warrant all the fiddling around and bugfixing/patching/modding to make it as "good" as it supposedly can be. It may have been groundbreaking at the time when it first came out, but that time has long since passed.
Probably the first time ITT anyone named the Fallout series as an example of video games improving over time.

this is obviously a massive problem and why game companies need to always be told to go fuck themselves in perpetuity whenever they make the slightest anti-consumer decision, these companies would lock you in a cuckcage contract if they could get away with it

I'm playing Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated and I remembered I had Spongebob: Truth or Square in my collection. Battle for Bikini Bottom is a collectathon platform with massive open world levels and Bikini Bottom as a hub world. Truth or Square is a linear platformer with a level select featuring Spongebob's house to roam around.

Battle for Bikini Bottom is beloved, but I give the nod to Truth or Square. A better adaption of an TV movie for Spongebob full of nostalgia and digestible gameplay that you could just breeze through and enjoy the source material.

It's probably more common around these parts than most other places, but I used to be super into online multiplayer back in the day [and I may still occasionally play online older games that haven't been totally overrun with mods, like BF1942] and also haven't touched it at all since like 2012. Unless it's co-op shit [and I prefer couch co-op anyway which is seemingly dead unless you buy two consoles, two copies, two TVs and two subscriptions] count me out. Everything now is about the "meta" and everyone is super fucking tryhard over it, which is an asset in games like Arma but is just retarded in most other genres. Even when playing older games online you still end up getting your shit rocked by some 35 year old guy in Romania who's been playing said old game for twenty fucking years on his Pentium 4 because it's the only thing that runs half-decent on it.

Maybe I just "aged out" of competitive online multiplayer but who the fuck has the time?

Are you, me?

I think it's just got boring for us. I grew up on Unreal and CS; no perks, no mods, no killstreak, absolutely zero fucking screen autism. Pick ups and 'monster-killlllll' announcements are fun.

When MW2 dropped, which I enjoyed for the 4-player team modes, it was daft, silly fun with lunging knives, killstreaks and noob-tubes. But that fun was meant to be a flash in the pan, not the new norm.

Now it's just the same stale shite; Pay to win, unbalanced mechanics, pointless teams, MTX MTX MTX and audible and visual autism up the bing, bang, wazoo. There's no challenge other than fighting back your own revulsion for games and gamers.

for me personally, trying to play them as gotten more annoying, I feel like younger generations have gotten more sweaty thanks to the influence of streamers, the no fun allowed mentality has really increased my preference for Singleplayer games
Pay to win, unbalanced mechanics, pointless teams, MTX MTX MTX and audible and visual autism
also this, anyone who believes they hate mtx doesnt hate them enough, not to mention the crossover bullshit that ruined shit like CoD

Then it all just stopped, there are basically no modern day games that have any gore whatsoever, even rated M games have no gore, even games that are in franchises famous for gore like God of War Ragnarock have no gore.
Dead Island 2 has some pretty good gore for a zombie game. You can smash zombies jaws off, melt their arms so they are just fleshy liquid on bone flailling around. You can burn their skin off with fire. Not to mention classic caved in skull, ripped out innards. Very gory game.
