Movie & TV Show Recommendations

Just went and saw Mickey 17 yesterday and it was so good. Super unique concept and it had me and my husband crying laughing. It’s a dark comedy/sci-fi film that follows Robert Pattinson character who signs up to be an expendable, meaning he gets tested on like a lab rat but then just gets replaced with another version of himself with the memories he had before. It’s really funny and I recommend it highly, but I will warn you that Mark Ruffalo plays a character that is definitely supposed to be like Donald Trump so if those things upset you then don’t watch.

I watched Anora, it’s too long for its own good a lot of repetitive scenes. But it’s a good movie and is a very realistic portrayal of whores.

That it won all the Oscars though speaks to the reality that 2024 was a really shitty year. Like damn Sean Baker’s Florida Project was much better. It’s funny that this is being cheered on as some sort of triumph for sex worker rights when it makes it pretty clear that it’s just a shit life to have that no one would do if they were capable of more.

Monkey Man is great fun. And I find it refreshing that it's directed by Jordan Peele. I assumed, until then, that he only focused on Black protagonists. Yes, Dev Patel is brown-skinned, but it's nice that the 'hero' isn't a Black bloke for once.

I'm pretty sure Sasquatch Sunset had some sasquatch rape in it. Although they were raping another sasquatch, so maybe that doesn't count.

I think Game of Thrones will go down as one of the greatest tragedies in television history.
When the writers had book material to pull from (seasons 1 - 4), they wrote some of the best stuff ever put to television. But seasons 5 - 8 are an exponential decline in quality,

Go back to season 1 scenes on YouTube and compare them to anything from seasons 5 onwards, especially season 8. What a waste.
I wouldn't recommend the show to a single person these days., which is incredibly sad because I love the books and I would have recommended it up until season 5.

The release of this got pushed back so many times I can't even take it seriously to book tickets. Expecting super fast release to online streaming/dvds.

Even Spike Lee did a movie with a white protagonist. Incidentally, one of his best films. The 25th Hour, starring Ed Norton as a felon spending his last day before going to prison for a long time.
