UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Turns out you may not be able to barrage the Farage, but the man can do it to himself quite easily.

And on another topic, can someone please tell the Yank where the joke about racism at Greggs started?

I met a woman in her 80s in the park today. Former council worker, lefty type. She was spewing hatred for Labour. I think most people with a brain have worked out the government hates the indigenous population. There’s no other reason to continue shovelling billions into the furnace for illegals while cutting welfare programmes.

Lovely! April often very brisk, but it’s the most gorgeous place on earth. Just drive around and enjoy the beaches. Scarista is a treasure. If you’re island hopping then Tiree is really nice.
I'll be probably staying on Lewis for most of the time. I've been to Orkney last year and it was very nice too. Honestly, you get used to the 24/7 wind going across the island.
Very few people around, no niggers and dune coons, exactly what I needed, and I hope it will be the same on Lewis.

At what (realistic) point would anarchy explode within the UK? We can tut and moan all we like, but we certainly have a breaking point-just what is that breaking point? When was the last time that breaking point erupted?
The government is about to take the proles free money and tell them they need to do the jobs that are being given to foreigners anyway.

There’s going to be a lot of people milling about on the streets and moaning on Facebook groups once the weather gets warmer with a lot of spare time when they can’t afford Sky Sports anymore.

All this is happening so they can be conscripted at a moments notice into the army so rapey Africans can wander the streets and live in hotels completely free.

Poll Tax Riots
Labour in the last budget went harder than any Tory would dare to and will go even harder when they go for the dole scum and professionally disable.

They’re getting away with it because the telly box news is going east on them.

They’re going to be shocked once again when the tinder keg ignites.

I admire the optimism.

One of the things I thought Reform did have going for it was that it does somewhat fit into the sentiment of legitimate change. Vote for a candidate, let the candidate change things for the better. That was, of course, until Nigel revealed himself yet again as not like those other girls and had to be the most special, pretty one of all to whom nobody else may ever disagree with.

British children have been raped on an industrial scale which even the sex scandals in churches and schools haven't matched. The country is being invaded by foreign mass migrants beyond anything from previous mass people movements in history. The Prime Minister is so desperate and eager for any sort of head pat from the EU he's desperate for a war with Russia despite it being clearly suicidal for the people under him. The new assisted dying legislation is less elective euthanasia than a pensioner reduction programme.

"When will the British rise up?". They won't. They're too scared of being called misogynist or islamophobic.

We need more unemployed people for a poll tax moment. Poll tax riots proceeded a lot of people already losing their jobs due policy changes and the dismantling of industry and then the welfare state all but being removed so this "safety net" these people would have other wise had wasn't their for them when Thatcher took their jobs away. The poll tax was simply the last straw for a lot of people who already didn't have any money left and were about to being fucked for daring to have large family's.

Removing the welfare for these dossers who make a living doing nothing wont kick up a riot since their often too lazy to do so anyways, it needs to be the people who were working who've lost their jobs due to the governments greed and then had any benefits they may have been entitled to be taken away. I think then you would actually get riots.

You might be too young to remember the great reform to the old Incapacity Benefit, so here is some background.

Incap was great, because the old unemployment benefit and then Jobseekers Allowance had this very annoying thing where you had to make some half arsed effort to get a job now and then. Not a good one mind or you'd actually get the job and have to go through the drama of getting laid off and signing back on and all the trouble that caused with sorting out your qualifying benefits and that shit. Incap, they just kept paying the giro.

So the Major government came up with a plan to get everyone off Incap and onto a benefit that was much much harder to get called Disability Living Allowance.

This didn't actually get the people on Incap into work. But what it did do was get them off the figures as 'unable to work, getting a giro'. They mostly went back to fiddling their JSA. But the figures were assiduously collected by the government' these people didn't go to work. Still, the government got to say it had made 'benefits cheats' and 'slackers' get off the dole, so this was a very popular policy.

This is the same plan 30 years later. It will be even less effective, because the people they are punting off the brew this time already qualified for DLA, so these people are substantially more disabled and unable to work than the old Incap punters. DLA is genuinely pretty difficult to get, and "having the vapours because you're a zoomer" won't qualify you.

What it will do is get people off DLA as a qualifying benefit for a lot of other things that cost money, like Blue Badges for parking, and the Motability scheme, and takes away their enhanced housing entitlement. It will disqualify them for PIP. It will get these people onto Universal Credit, which is much cheaper, and involves the regular theatre of pretending that anyone wants to hire someone with a lower leg amputation and unstable psychosis.

But the government will be able to say to the people who are working but skint, "Behold, the 'benefits cheats' can no longer live off the dole with their fake crutches". It doesn't matter whether or not that is factually correct; what matters is the public perception that other people are claiming disability benefits whilst other folk go to work. This is a widespread and deeply rooted belief.

The disabled will just get skinter in reality, but everyone in the UK public more or less hates the disabled, and taking a free swing at them is rarely penalised in the polls.

This will be an enormously popular policy. Especially with the old bastards who haven't stop squealing about the means testing of their winter fuel payment yet.

The thing is our government wastes 10 billion+ on immigration the swanky hotels etc.
And that is just one of the money sinks they actually admit to. You would not even have to go on a basic DOGE level search for where to cut stuff to get all needed funding. Just stop the things they openly admit to that everyone knows about because the press has reported on it.

The thing is we all know someone cheating disability and driving a new motability car.
There also is another area we don't talk enough about, but does need to be raised.

People who are disabled should be supported, I do not question this principle. But there is an increasing area that we are also creating more disabled people.

I understand genetic issues can crop up at random, and this likely cant be prevented. That said, Born in Bradford suggests that 1 in 6 babies have some sort of genetic condition and it doesn't take a brain surgeon to work out why.

At the other end, I've seen some very questionable life choices. I've never raised it to her but I know a lady who was fully aware she was a carrier for something that absolutley would lead to a lifelong disability. Theres several genetic faults which sometimes you can inherit but usually don't suffer any ill effects of yourself. It usually only manifests in any future offspring of a particular sex.

I don't particuarly want to be the one to tell people not to breed, but going on to not screen but then have multiple children, both carriers and multiple others who manifested a fairly unpleasant condition....While it can be managed, and of all disabilities going this is one that doesnt remove someones ability to work, this is not cheap. The average person is not able to take care of many of these via private care.

Nobody minds accidents or genuine fortune or misfortune. People like me mind a fucking lot when people start routinely pumping out disabled kids because they need to marry their cousin so he can move over

I don't begrudge any woman who gets pregnant by accident, can't afford a child but doesn't want to abort. What I do begrudge is severely inbred children. I also begrudge knowingly having children that, without screening eggs/sperm when you know there is something in the mix that isn't a small chance, is guranteed to cause harm to your descendant and is going to cost us all considerable sums of money.

I remember hearing about this back in 2012 and being utterly disgusted:
Mitochondrial disease.jpg

The "fix" for this is to now create three parent babies by removing damaged mitochondria and replacing it with donor genes but I think this should not occur.

If your genetics are fucked, then I don't think you should be having kids.
There is so much we don't know about genetics and epigenetics.
They don't know if three generations down the hybrid mitochondrial line they're going to create some abomination disease where the person can't make proteins past a certain age or something else equally horrible (FFI comes to mind)

Nah, we need to make super babies with wings and four arms.
